Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) is critically important to Bezos Academy as we launch tuition-free, Montessori-inspired preschools in under-resourced communities across the country. As an EHS Manager, you are an impact-driven professional who is eager to support the nationwide EHS strategy needed for our rapidly growing network of world-class schools. This role will partner cross-functionally with national and regional school leadership to integrate EHS best practices in all of our locations to protect our students, staff, and schools in every community we serve.
You will be responsible for the daily EHS operations of our preschools across multiple states. You will leverage your prior experience operating in a heavily regulated industry to adhere to local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company standards. You will perform EHS assessments and manage emergency preparedness, risk management, incident reduction, and overall EHS needs across the school sites. You will take charge of responsibilities encompassing workers' compensation including investigations, reporting, and related procedures. Additionally, you will train and provide ongoing EHS support and development for our teachers at these sites. The processes you implement will help students and staff to be able to focus on sparking a life-long joy for learning for children in each classroom.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, exempt (salaried) position.
- The full salary range for this position across Florida, Texas, and Washington, is $85,000 - $157,000 per year. The upper portion of the salary range is typically reserved for existing employees who demonstrate strong performance over time. Starting salary will vary by location, qualifications, and prior experience; during the interview process, candidates will learn the starting salary range applicable for their location.
- This role includes 15 paid days of vacation, 4 days of paid personal time off, 7 paid days of sick (care) time, 9 paid holidays, 5 paid days off for an organization-wide winter break, and additional time off if required by applicable law. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
- Five or more years of progressive experience in emergency preparedness, incident management, and overall environmental, health, and safety domains
- Working knowledge of EHS principles as well as OSHA and other state and federal safety regulations
- Experience with hands-on project leadership, such as personally conducting incident investigations, developing incident prevention plans, conducting audits, and creating and deploying EHS training
- Experience with workers' compensation, including investigations, reporting, recordkeeping, case management and related processes
- Experience with identifying, collecting, analyzing, and reporting EHS metrics to develop and implement data-driven initiatives
- Experience communicating with and responding to organizational leadership, legal counsel, and government agencies, related to EHS incidents or audits
- Valid state driver's license, clean motor vehicle records, personal auto insurance (at least minimum coverage under applicable law), and access to a reliable vehicle
- Ability to travel up to 50% of the time
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior experience managing EHS responsibilities in the state of Washington, Texas and/or Florida
- Demonstrated experience managing broad spectrum of risks across multiple locations in a heavily regulated industry (such as education, transportation, healthcare, etc.)
- Experience in workplace ergonomics, such as developing ergonomic training, conducting assessments, and implementing mitigation strategies
- Working knowledge of the educational sector and its unique EHS regulations
- Exemplary organizational skills, obsession with accuracy, and detail orientation
- Ability to navigate ambiguity and thrive in a dynamic, high-growth work environment
- Strong personal commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
