To support the vision, mission, and strategic priorities of ESC Region 12 and to provide training in the following areas to Region 12 educators to further meet the needs of students in the area of Social Work about delivering services to Homeless students.
The McKinney-Vento Social Worker will be able to serve students identified under the MV Act by fostering collaboration between school, home, and the community and removing barriers to academic success. They will support students and families by assessing and meeting the needs of these students experiencing homelessness with wraparound services, referrals, and follow-ups. Other responsibilities to ensure the success of students include:
- Provide counseling and mental health service resources
- Provide crisis intervention and conflict resolution resources
- Assist families in accessing and utilizing school and community resources
- Connect students with tutoring and extended learning opportunities
- Engage and build relationships with community-based organizations
- Make referrals for services for food, housing, emergency assistance, healthcare, and mental and behavioral support
- Collaborate with Title I, A Special Education, Migrant, English Learners, CTE, GT, and other program area specialists
- Address learning loss of students experiencing homelessness by providing academic and community wraparound support and assistance in collaboration with community-based organizations, including academic support, basic needs referrals, trauma-informed care, mental health services, etc.
- Keep Region 12 educators abreast of current trends and issues related to serving the needs of Homeless students.
Education/Certification
- Master's degree in Social Work Required
- Valid Texas Driver's license
Special Knowledge/Skills
- At least three years of relevant experience
- Knowledge and demonstrated competency in community-based services and organizations that support students and families with the challenges of being homeless.
- Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data
- Experience in blended learning
- Excellent organization and communication skills
- Positive attitude, self-starter, and team player
