Title:Dispatch Supervisor

Reports to: Dispatch Manager

Location: Philadelphia, PA

Job Type: Full-time, Non-exempt,

Job Schedule: 34 hours per week, 4 days per week (Wednesday-Friday 6am-3pm; Saturday 8am-5pm)


Founded in 2014, Bicycle Transit Systems (Bike Transit) is a woman-owned business that operates and manages the Philadelphia, Los Angeles and Las Vegas bike share programs as well as a nation-wide customer service call center. Our mission is to operate bike share systems that creates connections in our communities and protect our planet. We are currently looking for a dedicated Dispatch Supervisor to join our Philadelphia team!

The Dispatch Supervisorwill supervise and direct hour-by-hour, day-to-day operations of bike share by executing dispatch responsibilities with maximum efficiency, safety, and effectiveness. This is a leadership position within the bike share operation that is responsible for the support, workflow direction and supervision of field technicians, on street bike checking, and station technician team. Dispatch Supervisors are tasked with making critical decisions that will optimize the functionality of the system in line with overall system goals.

This position requires the ability to multi-task, establish priorities, complete assignments thoroughly and accurately, communicate effectively across company divisions and departments, as well as read and comprehend information. Must have a proven track record of effectively leading teams and strong communication skills. A strong knowledge of bike share or other transit agenda operations, features of service, systems, policies and procedures is required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Direct the daily workflow of Operations Field staff to ensure system needs are met
  • Complete daily opening and closing procedures
  • Ensure proper security of company and City property
  • Evaluate system needs and available resources such as equipment, staff, traffic and usage patterns to efficiently implement all field staff assignments.
  • Use software tools to ensure timely and productive workflows; supervise field staff to ensure optimal efficiency and safety
  • Act as first point of contact for personnel callouts
  • Direct teams to safely distribute and collect bicycles, inspect and ensure bike stations are safe, clean and operating properly.
  • Direct Operations Field staff in the field to take breaks and lunch in coordination with workflow.
  • Support field staff to interact with bike share customers and the public in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Facilitate day-to-day and shift-to-shift communication across and within departments.
  • Follow internal operational standard operating procedures (SOP’s); direct field staff and other Operations staff to implement SOP’s.
  • Evaluate problematic conditions that affect service levels and react accordingly to resolve issues.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Customer Service Representatives to ensure effective customer communication regarding system issues
  • Develop action plan with Operations team to reduce service failures and correct deficiencies in service level.
  • Execute emergency contingency plans (i.e. system outage, snow emergency, vehicle incident) when necessary; follow all SOP’s and Plans accurately.
  • Operate company vehicles, as needed, fill driving shifts when necessary.
  • Coordinate scouting and recovery of abandoned bikes in the field and manage associated reporting.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Empirical, level-headed, analytical, highly organized, problem-solving skills
  • System-oriented; demonstrated effectiveness in the development of and follow through of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Data-Driven, competent in Excel and ability to optimize information from various software platforms.
  • Previous logistics experience is required, transit logistics a plus
  • Strong leadership, communications and interpersonal skills; ability to motivate a team to perform effectively, efficiently, safely while finding joy and meaning in the work
  • Must be a team player with a positive attitude
  • Technical and mechanical aptitude
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (must pass a motor vehicle record check); comfortable driving, stopping and working in busy outdoor urban environments; experience operating larger vehicles (such as cargo vans) a plus
  • Knowledge of Philadelphia streets and geography
  • Adaptability - the individual adapts to changes in the work environment, manages competing demands and is able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
  • Dependability - the individual is consistently at work and on time, follows instructions responds to management direction and solicits feedback to improve performance.


Physical Requirements and Special Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • This is a full-time position working under a Reduced Workweek pilot program expected to work 34 hours per week (4 days per week, 8.5 hours per day). Reversion to a traditional 40-hour workweek may occur with 30-day notice.
  • Some hours outside of this, including nights and weekends, may be required.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.
  • This role requires the ability to speak clearly so listeners can understand, understand the speech of another person, see details of objects that are less than a few feet away, stand or sit for several hours straight at a time, and bend or stoop as necessary.
  • May require the ability to regularly lift objects up to 65+ lbs and carry objects of this weight for distances up to 150 feet.
  • May require working and riding a bicycle outdoors in various temperatures including rain, cold and heat conditions.
  • Comfortable with occasional working days consisting of driving, stopping and working in busy outdoor urban environments.
