The University of Maryland School Of Dentistry has an exciting opportunity available for a Director, Special Projects Senior. This position oversees the overall direction of select initiatives or projects that have significant University impact as designated by the Dean. Leads through subordinate senior professionals. Oversees and executes strategic goals and objectives that directly align with University strategy. Designated authority to make managerial decisions within areas of responsibility, informing leadership of results. Provides transformational advice and support to leadership on University long-term strategic vision.

Primary Duties:
- Identifies, develops, and manages events, initiatives, and Special Projects that foster community linkages.
Advise the Dean and Senior Leadership in strategic decision making and vision planning. - Participate as a member of the planning team for the Dean’s Special Projects, such as annual state of School addresses.
- Collaborate with multiple teams including divisions and departments within the school and across campus to research, design, and implement selected strategic initiatives to the betterment of the school and its students.
- In close coordination with campus administrative offices, such as: Office of Government and Community Affairs (OGCA), compiles necessary information and coordinates internal arrangements for meetings and special events of the Dean and leadership with public officials.
- Ensure that leadership is fully prepared for meetings and appearances with key stakeholder groups including conducting internet-based and other research to prepare leadership for meetings.
- Direct and plan for school events, such as: Convocation Planning, Alumni and Donor Events, Community Outreach, and other similar activities initiated by the institution.
- Assist the Dean with key searches and hires within the Dean's Office, throughout the School, and at the University.
Assist the Dean's Office with the planning and execution of external reviews of academic units throughout the - school.
- Prepare written reports, materials and presentations for the Dean and other school and University leaders as appropriate.
- Support the work of the Office of the Dean by coordinating efforts within the School to help build and develop strong external support for the school and its mission.
- Attend appropriate internal and external meetings, hearing, and conferences.
- Create a cohesive work team that works collaboratively to achieve unit’s goals. Oversee the recruitment, performance, and training of team members and continually reviews strengths and weaknesses of staff to maintain a well-trained, highly involved, and motivated team.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Business Administration, and/or related field. Master’s degree is preferred.
Experience: Eight (8) years of experience in public affairs, development, government affairs, and/or academic administration with prior experience providing executive level communications, writing/editing, or public relations.
Supervisory Experience: Two (2) years of experience at a leadership/managerial level with responsibility for the performance of staff.

Hiring Range: $135,000 - $150,000 (Commensurate with education and experience)
