Position Summary:

The Director of Solutions supports the strategic business initiatives to deliver and maintain digital insurance engagement, distribution management, and quoting platforms for use by Ryan Specialty and its insurance distribution partners. This position works closely with other digital organization leaders such as the insurance product management team and the operations team. Solution design involves interacting with both the business and technology development teams, gathering and refining requirements and creative problem solving. Once the vision is established the solution owner creates a roadmap and works with the development teams to deliver the vision. The Director of Solutions is heavily engaged in the systems development lifecycle and leads teams (consisting of employees, consultants, and contractors) to deliver world-class solutions that result in optimized business outcomes such as higher revenue/premium, reduced operation spends and greater channel satisfaction. While having a heavy focus on developing solutions, the Director of Solutions is a key participant in setting strategic direction for our solutions, as well as overall business. The end goal is to get digitally delivered insurance products to market faster and optimize top line revenue.
 

Essential Functions:
  • Act as leader on all aspects and functionality of our solutions. 
  • Collaborate with clients and prospective users to understand their needs and translate them into product requirements
  • Work closely with Development and IT teams, and external vendors to enhance offerings and capabilities.
  • Provide Development Teams insight into Business Requirements (provide the “why” so they understand best “how”)
  • Work closely with insurance product management, operations, and other teams to set strategy and execute projects. 
  • Define the vision for the product
  • Create a product roadmap based on the vision
  • Participate in business planning to ensure deliverables are aligned with business success goals.
  • Engage in all aspects of solution delivery, including testing, implementation, and maintenance.
  • Serve as liaison point with external stakeholders such as the Actuarial, Business Development, Compliance, Finance, Marketing, Training and Support.
  • Monitor sources of technical issues or questions and make recommendations to remediate.
  • Accurately identify problems and provide appropriate solutions, including coordination with partners, external vendors, and other internal teams to deliver optimal solutions
  • Occasionally participate in agile team sprint planning, sprint review, and sprint retrospectives
  • Work with other project team members to review and approve testing plans
  • Participate in department meetings, provide input and suggestions
  • Work with business teams on product roll-out and delivery
  • Facilitate a continuous feedback loop on the product
  • Work with other team members to accomplish organizational goals
  • Perform special projects as assigned
Education/Experience/Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in business or technology field
  • Minimum 10 years post-graduate experience in the P&C insurance industry or with a technology company serving the industry
  • Proven track record of high-impact successes as a leader within insurance organizations or technology firms
  • Strong domain expertise in insurance systems coupled with a deep knowledge of business applications software development processes
  • High sense of urgency and entrepreneurial work ethic required to drive business outcomes
  • Demonstrable history of approaching technical projects with a strong commercial point-of-view
  • Outstanding intellect, drive and interpersonal skills are paramount
  • Exceptional strategic thinking and analytical skills
  • Ability to address cross-functional and cross-organizational issues independently
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills
  • Project management skills such as defining scope, maintaining project plans, and driving project teams desirable
  • Able to cultivate interpersonal client, partner, co-worker, and executive relationships
  • Ability to perform job duties and manage workload with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to multi-task while consistently maintaining strong attention to detail.
  • Experience with Agile development techniques and supporting tools desirable.
  • Prior experience using Jira and Confluence is desirable.
