Summary
The Director of Shareholder Communications will report directly to the Vice President of Communications and play a crucial role in shaping our communications strategy regarding shareholders. The Director will develop comprehensive communication plans emphasizing community outreach and change management efforts as required. The Director will lead a team of up to four individuals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Under the direction of the Vice President of Communications, oversees and guides the company's shareholder relations communications strategy, ensuring alignment with our corporate goals and brand identity.
• Oversees Social Media strategy and content development related to shareholder events.
• Leads communication efforts related to critical corporate products, most notably the annual report, corporate calendar, and shareholder surveys.
• Develops robust and comprehensive communication plans that encompass various facets of community outreach. Ensuring the company maintains a positive and constructive relationship with regional communities, addressing concerns, and fostering goodwill.
• Develops robust weekly metrics and reporting systems to monitor and analyze the effectiveness of communication initiatives, using data to refine strategies and approaches with a focus on continuous improvement.
• Ensures timely, accurate and transparent communication with all relevant stakeholders.
• Works closely with the Director of Corporate Communications to understand NANA's shareholder audience and create communications to inform and engage all shareholders inside and outside Alaska.
• Collaborates with External Affairs to understand NANA's regional relationships and support them in communicating with audiences and ensuring consistent messaging.
• Participates in the development of and regular updates to the NANA Communications Plan.
• Writes communications plans for individual projects and programs. Develops key messages that align with NANA's objectives.
• Analyzes issues and provides options and recommendations for action.
• Acts as the day-to-day point of contact for assigned communications functions, campaigns, and programs.
• Mentors, guides, and manages the assigned communications team members, ensuring high performance, growth and adherence to best practices.
• Directs planning and coordination of virtual and live events related to shareholder relations, including NANA Annual Meetings, Informal meetings, community outreach events and NANA's participation in AFN as well as other events and sponsorships.
• Nurtures and builds relationships with creative vendors, event venues and other industry contacts and contractors.
• Selects and directs the work of third-party communication vendors with the approval of the department vice president.
• Ensures culturally appropriate communications and Iñupiaq language interpretation and translation as necessary.
• Follows the Iñupiat Ilitqusiat (Iñupiat Values) in work relationships and work products.
• Produces materials to assist opinion leaders, shareholders living outside of Alaska, NANA employees and others to understand NANA's shareholder relations projects and other projects as assigned.
• Ensures that communications policies and procedures are followed.
• Coordinates and manages meetings with appropriate individuals in planning, preparing, and distributing communications products.
• Develops presentations for internal and external audiences.
• Writes content and edits written material.
• Ensures the accuracy of work products.
• Secures approvals in accordance with department policies.
• Operates in a climate of confidentiality requiring discretion.
• Other duties pertinent to the department or unit's success may also be assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in communications or in a related field of study or commensurate experience on a year for year basis may be substituted for the required degree.
• Eight to 10 years of related Communications, Community Relations or Public Relations experience required.
• Stellar verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills with proven ability to establish and work within timelines.
• Fluent in Adobe Creative Suite.
• Advanced computer skills in the MS Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
• Knowledge of the Iñupiaq language and culture, the history and structure of NANA, the organization and activities of tribal governments and other regional partners, and the geography and economy of the NANA region.
• Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
• Must be willing and able to travel up to 30% of the time.
• Valid driver's license with and acceptable driving record to be eligible under NANA's vehicle insurance policy.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Weather: Indoors - environmentally controlled; requires most or all work to be done inside.
Noise level: The noise level in the work environment is usually that of a standard office atmosphere.
Description of environment: Office building with standard office environment.
Physical requirements: Employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
Travel: Up to 50% of the time. Employee may travel throughout Alaska and/or to remote locations and may be required to use alternative modes of transportation, including but not limited to snow machines, boats, small airplanes, and ATVs.
