The Chief Pension Officer (aka Deputy Director) is an integral part of our Division of Retirement & Benefits' leadership team. The Division oversees the processing of over 2,000 retirement applications per year and ensures pension benefits to almost 45,000 retirees. We are proud to serve those who serve Alaska. The work environment:You will work as integral member of the leadership team. We are a collaborative team with positive communication. During the State's Legislative Session (January through May), the position -- along with the Administration, DRB Director, and the Chief Financial Officer -- works with lawmakers and their staff on developing and analyzing pension legislation.

Minimum Qualifications
Positions in the partially exempt service are exempt from the recruitment processes required by AS 39.25.150 (3)-(10).

The partially exempt service is established by statute and is subject to the state's classification and pay plans. Employees appointed to partially exempt positions are exempt from the usual recruitment process and serve at the discretion of the appointing authority. Desired Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in finance, accounting, or similar field
AND
One year of professional management experience at the senior review or supervisory level.
OR
Three years of professional management or administrative experience at the advanced level

- Determine program policy and standard operating procedures, monitor state and federal changes' effects on the pension and defined contribution plans, and write policy memos to implement changes due to any changes in law or court decisions.
- Implement regulations governing retirement programs and oversee management of retirement areas through program chiefs.
- Provide guidance and instruction on policy, goals, and use of division resources as it relates to the pension section or other areas as delegated by the Director.
- Monitor, analyze, and implement requirements of federal state and federal legislation.
