DIRECTOR PRODUCT MANAGEMENT - NUTRITION


Job Description:

The Director of Product Management is responsible for the overall performance of the team’s product line portfolio, focused on driving sustainable and profitable growth for the overall business. The Director will manage the development and direction of team members and their product lines including product line growth, employee development, competitive assessment, sales training, and adoption. The Director will have ownership for the product line's KPI's and will coordinate with cross-functional teams including sales, marketing, operations and the leadership team for sales growth, profitability, and client retention. The Director will lead the daily management and administration of the Product Manager Team and their assigned lines within a specific category and/or vendor base. The Director will have thorough knowledge of the products and vendors within the team and will be a key contact point for the sales force, customer service and Leadership team.


Responsibilities:

  • Vendor Management
    • Be the key stakeholder for Batory Foods’ key vendors; help guide, support, and manage the relationship with key vendors within the team’s product portfolio.
    • Develop a familiarity and working partnership with Batory Foods’ vendors.
    • Learn and understand product characteristics for items offered by your suppliers including the uses, functionality and the customer base purchasing these ingredients to identify potential growth opportunities.
    • Develop understanding of uses of key ingredients to be able to communicate to the wider sales team.
    • Work with vendors for additional LTL business and find ways to align synergies.
    • Look to increase our importance to the supplier with the goal of developing exclusivities and Power Partnerships.
    • Attend training sessions provided by vendors to learn and understand the functions and markets that the ingredients are used within.
    • Manage all high-level pricing and contract negotiations in conjunction with your direct reports with suppliers within the product portfolio.
    • Ensure that all dealings are with vendors that are providing high quality products and services.
  • Revenue Management
    • Fully manage and be responsible for the P&L of the team’s product line portfolio.
    • Drive profitability for the business through pricing strategy and margin management; clear ownership of break-even points, target margins, and price banding.
    • Work closely with sales and supply chain teams to ensure maximizing profit margins and reduced inventory age.
    • Actively review supply chains to identify improvements in inefficiencies including but not limited to transportation, warehousing, and packaging.
    • Gain understanding of market pricing and how it relates to distribution sales vs direct sales.
    • Become fluent in differing product line cost models and develop an understanding of product line margin structures with ability to quote the Sales Team as needed.
    • Develop an understanding of the products’ markets and pricing platforms for both domestic and international markets.
    • Develop and execute a plan to achieve 10% + growth on an annual basis for the total team’s product portfolio.
  • Business Development
    • Set cross functional goals and help to prioritize work and hold cross functional team members accountable to their commitments.
    • Identify additional market segments for target focus.
    • Identify key competitors and develop strategies for combating competition.
    • Support sales and marketing strategies as directed by Batory Foods Leadership Team.
    • Lead the team in the development and implementation of marketing and sales strategies in targeted product lines as ingredients complement each other.
    • Travel as necessary to industry specific functions, customer site visits and vendor meetings.
    • Optimize the product portfolio to SKU level, making choices about new SKU commercialization and SKU rationalization.
  • Strategic Planning
    • Define and execute product line strategies and tactics, building on global/regional product strategies and local category strategies.
    • Lead development and execution of product line strategy vision, ensuring prioritization and proper communication across the organization.
    • Compile competitor intelligence and incorporate learnings into ongoing platform management.
    • Manage a Product Management team, all while staying hands-on with the strategic vendors/principles.
    • Develop and implement a strategy for successful employee development.
    • Support and help implement the strategies defined by the Batory Leadership Team.

  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability and willingness to manage and influence others and drive success in a team first environment.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A Bachelor’s degree with a focus in science, food science or business administration, or an equivalent combination of work experience and education.
  • Eight years progressive work experience in a business environment with at least five years in food ingredients or food manufacturing.
  • Experience in Product Management, physicals trading, or procurement with exposure to sales, vendors, logistics and customer service.
  • Experience in a Product Management or purchasing environment with exposure to sales, vendors, logistics and customer service.
  • Demonstrated food industry knowledge with exposure to ingredient sourcing.
