Job description

Director of Special Projects, Volunteer

About the Pet Cancer Foundation

The Pet Cancer Foundation’s vision is to increase the life expectancy and improve the quality of life of pets diagnosed with cancer. Estimates suggest that 12M dogs and cats are developing cancer every year, roughly 6x the number of humans getting cancer yearly within North America. We need to do more for our furry friends, and we're building a large team of distributed, animal-loving passionate volunteers to help them and their families.

As the organization continues to work towards the accomplishment of our mission, the PCF team includes professionals contributing virtually across Canada, the United States, and several other countries worldwide. As we continue to expand our efforts, we're in search of experienced senior leaders with diverse skillsets to support the organization’s growth. That's where and how you can help us.

About the Position:

PCF is seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to serve as Director of Special Projects. This volunteer position plays a crucial role in leading and managing various special initiatives and projects aimed at advancing our mission. The Director of Special Projects will work closely with the executive team to identify, plan, and execute strategic projects that drive impact and further our objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the planning, execution, and evaluation of Special Projects and initiatives aimed at advancing the organization's mission and goals.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify project needs, allocate resources, and establish timelines and milestones for successful project completion.
  • When applicable develop project budgets, ensuring funds are allocated appropriately and used efficiently to achieve project objectives.
  • Provide regular updates and reports on project progress to the executive team and key stakeholders, highlighting achievements, challenges, and areas for improvement.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders involved in Special Projects, fostering positive relationships, and ensuring effective communication.
  • Oversee the recruitment, training, and management of volunteers and staff assigned to Special Projects, providing guidance, support, and mentorship as needed.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of Special Projects, collecting feedback and data to measure success and inform future initiatives.

About You:

The ideal candidate for this role is a dynamic leader with a passion for making a difference in the lives of pets and their families. You possess excellent project leadership and management skills, with a proven track record of successfully leading and delivering complex projects on time and within budget. You are a strategic thinker with the ability to problem-solve and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to motivate and inspire others to achieve shared goals. You have:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., business administration, operations).
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a related role.
  • Proficiency in project management concepts.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong leadership and team-building abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
  • Passion for animals and commitment to the mission of the Pet Cancer Foundation.

What we provide you with

Volunteering with PCF in this critical role is a generational opportunity to contribute to building a best-in-class organization that will make a difference in millions of animals' lives in the decades to come. The challenges of building a binational cancer agency from our early years will provide learning while expanding your network of contacts that will be of assistance to your advancing private or non-profit career.

Footnotes:

  • We are seeking a highly entrepreneurial individual who is comfortable in a start-up environment. You must be willing to build from the ground up while understanding the challenges that come with the territory.
  • This volunteer position requires a time commitment of approximately 10 hours per week.
  • This position is virtual and must reside from within North America.
  • Visit our website at www.petcancerfdn.org to learn more about the organization.

Job Type: Part-time

Expected hours: 8 – 10 per week

Application Question(s):

To avoid misunderstanding, we ask that you leave us a brief note acknowledging your awareness and willingness to volunteer so we can properly consider your application.

Thank you!
