Job description

General Definition:

Implements overall security strategy, policies, and standards to ensure the physical safety of all horsemen, team members, and vistors to the organization’s facilities and the security of property and assets.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Interacts and coordinates activities and actions with the state regulators from TXRC and TCPS as well as the Department of Public Safety and other law enforcement agencies.
  • Interacts with members of the city government on safety and security issues as they arise.
  • Directs and oversees the daily operations of the Security Department and its employees.
  • Oversees the daily operations of the Parking Department.
  • Oversees the actions of other departments as they relate to issues of safety and security.
  • Interacts with executives and department heads to facilitate security actions.
  • Directs the actions of subordinates and reports to superiors all actions as required.
  • Handles confidential information and acts accordingly with the information and facts.
  • Handles cash as required in an efficient and responsible manner, maintaining accurate and detailed records.
  • Negotiates contracts and services as required by the company and department.
  • Interacts with members of the business community as required to provide services as required.
  • Understands and prepares budgets and other projections of work-related issues.
  • Understands staffing levels and issues of regulatory nature for employees.
  • Provides a strong base of support for employees and supervisors in daily operating procedures and alters procedures as needed.
  • Provides consistent and fair treatment of employees and the disciplinary actions taken.
  • Deals with employees on a one-on-one basis when issues arise in daily operations.
  • Carries out management responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring, and training; planning, assigning, and directing work; performance appraisal; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • Act as role model, lead by personal example, encourage team work and cooperation, remain calm, cool and collected under any circumstance, handle conflict and resolve issues with tact and diplomacy, use caution and discretion when faced with s crisis situation, avoid physical confrontation at all times, seek assistance from management and/or law-enforcement personnel, use your best judgment and ensure the staff is trained, re-trained and follows post orders and SOP’s at all times.
  • Performs other related duties as may be assigned by reporting senior.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law Enforcement, Business Management, or 8 years related experience and/or training; or combination.
  • MBA, MAC or equivalent graduate degree preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience in law enforcement, military security or other protective service work required. Valid driver’s license required.
  • Extensive knowledge of fire prevention, safety, and security operations
  • Excellent management and supervisory skills
  • Proven track record as a team leader with an understanding of management practices
  • Analytical problem-solving skills with an impeccable attention to detail
  • Ability to set overall strategy and drive process improvement
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to collaborate and build a consensus in a high-pressure environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel)
  • Working knowledge of Lone Star Park, its facilities, and the Security operation.
  • Previous experience in law enforcement, military security or other protective service work preferred.
  • Ability to apply the principles of supervision to direct the work activities of subordinates. A minimum of one year supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to motivate and supervise security personnel.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ethical work habits and high integrity.
  • Working knowledge and skill in the use of self-defense and controlling uncooperative subjects.
  • Ability to work effectively under highly stressful conditions.
  • Ability to apply force in accordance with department policies/procedures.
  • Ability to exercise diplomacy when dealing with people in sensitive situations.
  • Ability to apply active listening techniques in order to obtain complete and accurate information.
  • Knowledge of basic fire prevention and control techniques.
  • Ability to act quickly and intelligently in emergency situations.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to work independently or as a team when required;
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend effectively in English. Bilingual skills helpful.
  • Ability to interpret and act upon moderately difficult written information.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing for the purpose of obtaining and disseminating information, problem-solving and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to work with detailed information/data and obtain pertinent information to complete a detailed and cohesive written report.
  • Ability to analyze information and draw logical conclusions.
  • Ability to maintain records and complete reports as required.
  • Ability to interact positively with employees and the general public.

  • Ability to apply first responder techniques in performing emergency first aid (e.g. triage, CPR, etc.).
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and standard office equipment to perform simple clerical tasks.
  • May be required to walk or stand for extended periods of time.

Training and Experience:

  • Five years of safety/security experience required, including five years supervisory experience in operations or related field
  • Advanced training or certification in safety and security preferred

Licenses/Certifications/Other:

  • Texas Racing Commission License (TXRC)
  • Texas Commission of Private Security (TCPS)
  • Level III Commissioned Officer License
  • Breath Alcohol Certification
  • Valid Driver License

Physical Requirements:

  • Strength:
    • Sedentary to Medium workload
    • Stand, sit and walk consistently
    • Will be required to lift up to or over 20lbs or exert occasionally over 50lbs
  • Movement:
    • Will consistently be required to touch, feel, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, reach
    • Will use office equipment
    • Driving motor vehicles as needed
  • Auditory:
    • Frequently speak and articulate
    • Noise levels will be varied from moderate to heavy machinery
  • Environmental:
    • Exposure to weather and extreme elements are minimal
    • Minimal exposure in close proximity to horses
