- Perform and manage laboratory tasks involving all aspects of protein production including construct design, cloning, protein expression testing, protein purification and quality analysis.
- Additional tasks include the setup of protein crystallization trials and monitoring these experiments.
- Perform some protein structure determination under the guidance of experienced staff members.
5% - Laboratory operations
- Assist in the daily operations of the PSXL which includes maintaining the inventory of consumable supplies, preparing stock solutions and media, general laboratory cleanliness and introducing users to the laboratory guidelines.
- Provide advice to the Director regarding areas to improve/enhance the laboratory’s capabilities.
5% - Documentation/Analysis
- Preparation and analysis of scientific research materials for services performed.
- Devising research methods and plans for carrying out protein expression/purification and crystallization experiments.
- Maintaining detailed notes and records pertaining to all laboratory work.
- Assistance in writing detailed final reports for collaborator’s projects.
- Communicate with collaborators of the PSXL regarding their projects.
5% - Training
- Provide training to junior researchers in the methods utilized for protein production and structural biology methods with input from senior staff members.

- Bachelor’s degree in structural biology, biochemistry, biology, molecular biology, chemistry or related field and three years of related experience OR a Master’s degree in structural biology, biochemistry, biology, molecular biology, chemistry or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in either protein production or protein structure determination methods.
- Experience in managing multiple projects as evidenced in application materials.
- A record of published, peer-reviewed research in areas related to the position.
