Job description

Santa Monica Proper Hotel is seeking a dynamic, experienced Director of Sales and Marketing.

A seamless merger of historic retrofit and new construction, our property features interior design by international style icon Kelly Wearstler, multiple dining options by local area culinary stars, a rooftop lounge and swimming pool, and 24,000 square feet of meeting and event space.

As a Director of Sales and Marketing, you will play a vital role in developing and executing sales and marketing strategies to drive revenue, enhance brand recognition and deliver an exceptional guest experience.

Responsibilities

  • Sales Strategy Development: Develop and implement effective sales strategies to achieve revenue targets and maximize profitability; identify new business opportunities and cultivate strong relationships with corporate clients, travel agencies, event planners, and other relevant stakeholders

  • Marketing Campaigns: Collaborate with the marketing team to create and execute innovative marketing campaigns that enhance brand awareness and drive direct bookings; develop targeted promotions, advertising initiatives and digital marketing strategies to reach the hotel's target audience

  • Team Leadership: Manage and lead a high-performing sales and marketing team; set goals, provide guidance and inspire team members to deliver exceptional results; foster a positive work environment and encourage professional development within the team

  • Revenue Management: Collaborate with the Revenue Management team to analyze market trends, competitor activities and pricing strategies; utilize data and insights to optimize room rates, revenue streams and occupancy levels

  • Public Relations: Establish and maintain strong relationships with local media, influencers and industry professionals; act as the hotel's spokesperson and ensure positive media coverage; plan and execute media events and press releases to generate publicity

  • Partnerships and Collaborations: Identify and foster partnerships with luxury brands, local businesses and organizations to create unique guest experiences and increase brand visibility; negotiate and manage contracts and agreements to ensure mutually beneficial partnerships

  • Budgeting and Reporting: Develop and manage the sales and marketing budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively; monitor and analyze key performance metrics and prepare regular reports

  • Guest Experience: Collaborate with Guest Services and Operations teams to ensure a seamless guest experience aligned with the hotel's luxury standards; continuously seek opportunities to enhance guest satisfaction and loyalty through personalized services and tailored experiences

Requirements

  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Hospitality or related field; a minimum of 9 years of experience in sales and marketing within the luxury hospitality industry, with a proven track record of achieving sales targets and driving revenue growth; prior experience in a leadership or managerial role is essentia

  • Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of the luxury lifestyle hotel market, trends and customer preferences; familiarity with revenue management principles and digital marketing strategies; knowledge of local market dynamics and competition

  • Strategic Thinker: Ability to develop and execute comprehensive sales and marketing strategies; strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess market conditions and identify opportunities; results-oriented mindset with a focus on driving revenue and achieving business objectives

  • Leadership and Communication: Proven leadership abilities with experience in managing and motivating a diverse team; excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with clients, partners and team members; strong negotiation and presentation skills

  • Brand Ambassador: Passionate about luxury hospitality and committed to upholding the hotel's brand image and reputation; ability to embody the hotel's values and deliver an exceptional guest experience at all times

  • Adaptability and Resilience: Thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment; able to navigate and prioritize multiple projects and deadlines; resilient in the face of challenges and able to quickly adapt strategies as needed
