Director of Maintenance and Physical Plant
POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for the administration of all custodial, mechanical, grounds maintenance and upkeep of campus buildings and grounds.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Direct, plan, develop, implement and evaluate programs for routine and preventive maintenance of buildings, mechanical systems and grounds.
- Directs all activities that relate to the maintenance and operation of school facilities including buildings, grounds, athletic facilities and equipment.
- Implement policies and standards for physical plant operations.
- Perform and or direct campus-wide custodial, grounds and maintenance services including snow removal.
- Supervise maintenance performed on physical plant facilities, establishing priorities as necessary.
- Supervises plant personnel and provides for training and development of physical plant personnel in safety procedures.
- Solicit and analyze bids for building and grounds repairs.
- Supervise the pricing and selection of equipment and materials to meet campus needs.
- Prepare and monitor departmental budget.
- Maintain up to date knowledge of applicable state laws.
- Advises President on all matters pertaining to the immediate and long-range planning of facility operations as well as reports to the board of trustees on an as needed basis with facilities updates.
- Performs other professional related duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (building trades, construction management, engineering) or a minimum of five to seven years progressively responsible experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- The ability to perform minor repairs and upgrades in electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems along with general carpentry and mechanical skills.
- Utilize Microsoft Office or appropriate alternative software to create efficient and accurate documents, reports, spreadsheets, etc.
- Demonstrated knowledge of engineering, plant operation maintenance and management.
- Experience in reading blueprints and building specifications.
- Ability to lift, push and/or pull up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to organize and direct multiple projects simultaneously.
- Available and on call for emergency situations
