The Director of Facilities at the Academy of Magical Arts / Magic Castle is responsible for overseeing the seamless operation and maintenance of the venue's facilities. The role requires a skilled professional with the ability to diagnose and implement repairs to various equipment, including refrigerators, commercial ovens, HVAC systems and AV equipment. The Director of Facilities will lead a maintenance team, ensure compliance with safety regulations, manage budgets, and play a critical role in providing a safe and enchanting environment for guests, members, and staff.
QUALIFICATIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Facility Management: Oversee all aspects of facility management to maintain a safe, functional, and visually appealing environment for members, guests, and staff.
- Maintenance Supervision: Manage a team of maintenance personnel, providing leadership, guidance, and support to ensure efficient and effective completion of tasks.
- Building Systems: Responsible for the maintenance, repair, and operation of critical building systems, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, security, and fire safety, to maintain a consistent and optimal operational state.
- Vendor Coordination: Collaborate with external contractors and vendors for specialized maintenance and repairs, ensuring that service agreements are adhered to, and work is completed on schedule and within budget.
- Event Support: Support the Events team in setting up and preparing the venue for various magical performances, private functions, and special events, ensuring all facilities are well-equipped and staged appropriately.
- Safety Compliance: Enforce safety protocols, ensure adherence to local regulations, and promote a culture of safety among staff and visitors.
- Budget Management: Prepare and manage the facilities budget, identifying cost-saving measures without compromising the quality of maintenance.
- Equipment Inventory: Maintain an up-to-date inventory of all facility-related equipment and supplies, ensuring proper organization and storage.
- Facility Upgrades: Identify areas for improvement, develop enhancement plans, and oversee the execution of facility upgrade projects.
- Sustainability Initiatives: Champion environmentally-friendly practices and initiatives, seeking ways to reduce energy consumption and implement sustainable solutions.
- Emergency Response: Develop and implement emergency response procedures, conducting drills to prepare staff for various contingencies.
- Collaborative Efforts: Liaise with other departments within the organization, fostering a cooperative and team-oriented approach to facility-related matters.
Minimum Qualifications and Skill Requirements:
- Experience: At least 5 years of experience in facility management, with a proven track record of leading teams and managing building systems.
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with building maintenance practices, equipment operation, and facility-related technologies.

Additional Job Knowledge Requirements:
- Refrigeration and Cooling Systems: Proficient in diagnosing and performing repairs on refrigerators, freezers, ice machines, glass chillers, and other related equipment, ensuring their optimal functioning.
- HVAC Systems: Capable of diagnosing minor HVAC issues and carrying out necessary repairs. Able to install thermostats, set programming, and maintain proper climate control within the facility.
- Commercial Kitchen Equipment: Skilled in diagnosing and implementing repairs on commercial ovens (electric or gas), fryer units, convection ovens, commercial mixers, and other kitchen equipment, ensuring they are in excellent working condition.
- Electrical Troubleshooting: Proficient in diagnosing electrical problems, tracing issues to their source, and implementing effective repairs to maintain electrical systems' integrity.
- Plumbing Projects: Capable of replacing water heaters and handling related plumbing projects to maintain a reliable water supply throughout the establishment.
- Emergency Situations: Familiarity with emergency protocols and the ability to perform the required role during emergency situations, ensuring the safety of staff, guests, and the facility as a whole.
