The Commercial Products & Platforms team develops digital experiences and global technology platforms that delight our customers and enable them to order on their terms, across channels and touch points, reliably and conveniently!

As Director of Engineering for Delivery, you'll lead the engineering teams building and maintaining integrated McDelivery and third-party ordering marketplace platforms used by millions of customers in more than 50 countries every day. You'll drive the strategic direction for the technical architecture of our delivery products and platforms, and act as a critical partner to product management and business collaborators in growing our McDelivery business globally.

Delivery is a cornerstone of McDonald's Accelerating the Arches strategy, and our portfolio of more than 30 vendor integrations globally for ordering marketplaces and last-mile delivery order fulfillment help to define the ordering experience for millions. This leader will develop a team of Tech Leads whose engineering squads design, develop, test, and deploy McDonald's core delivery services for routing, tracking, and fulfilling integrated delivery orders, as well as surfacing our menu to third-party delivery marketplace apps around the world.

The Director of Engineering for Delivery will work within the Customer Technology organization and play a key leadership role in defining the future of McDonald's digital products and platforms as we progress our modernization and globalization journey.

Accountabilities & responsibilities

• Manage a globally distributed team of Tech Leads, internal engineering squads, and vendor engineering resources with high integrity, ensuring the quality of technical work and helping to solve engineering challenges in sustainable, scalable ways.
• Partner closely with peers in product management, strategy, data & architecture, and market teams in creating technical solutions for business challenges and help promote the value your multi-functional teams are crafting with both corporate and market partners.
• Define and align the architecture strategy for technical solutions within the delivery domain and establish a compelling technical vision for products and platforms to support integrated delivery and third-party ordering marketplaces.
• Development for the existing team including direct reports, indirect reports of Engineering squads, and a network of internal mentees—as well as attracting and growing additional technical talent to drive our maturity.

• 10 years experience in hands-on technical roles showing progressive growth, with a background in software engineering and architectural design.
• 7 years experience in an Agile software development environment and leading software engineering teams.
• Validated experience as a people manager and servant leader, with an interest in coaching and mentoring both direct and indirect reports.
• Outstanding communication skills, experience with stakeholder management and multi-functional partnership, interested in breaking down technical details and decisions for non-technical audiences.
• Expertise in developing custom cloud applications, APIs, and native apps for iOS and Android, with a strong, principled point of view on standard processes and technologies.
• Deep knowledge of continuous integration and deployment methodologies, cloud-native technologies, and test automation.
• Experience with project and product planning, including prioritization and roadmap creation, in partnership with peers and adjacent product teams.

Preferred qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or related technical fields.
• Domain-specific experience working in the QSR industry, driving last-mile delivery and logistics solutions, and partnering with global delivery marketplace players strongly preferred.
• Ability to travel as needed for international market visits, typically less than 20% of time.
• Direct working experience with AWS and/or Google Cloud Platform technologies.
