Cornerstone Montgomery – Director of Development and Communication

As the largest outpatient behavioral health agency in Montgomery County, we offer years of evidence based treatment experience to our consumers and practical training to our staff. Our robust training program allows staff members to develop and grow in the position and provides the basis for upward mobility within the agency. The Director of Development & Communications is responsible for planning, organizing and directing all of Cornerstone Montgomery’s fundraising, including major gifts, planned giving, special events and capitol campaigns. The Director works closely with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors in all Development and fundraising endeavors.
Responsibilities of the Director of Development and Communication
- Fundraising Responsibilities: Develop and implement all fundraising activities of the agency, including direct mail, corporate and foundation appeals, government grants, planned giving, special events, and high dollar donor cultivation. Responsible for research, grant writing and campaign strategies. With Development Committee of the Board, set annual goals and strategies, coordinate outreach activities and special events, target and initiate special appeals. Develop and leverage key relationships and contacts. Expand donor base.
- Public Relations/Marketing Responsibilities: Responsible for the production of all external and internal communications including but not limited to website, social media, newsletters, mailings and Annual Report. Be point person for all agency public relations activities as it supports the fundraising, marketing, media, and advocacy goals of the agency. Oversee the marketing function in the agency. Coordinate any specialized input from consultants needed to fulfill this function.
- Board of Directors and Other Agency Committees Support Responsibilities: Attend meetings of the Board of Directors, work with Board committees as assigned, specifically the Development Committee. Support other agency wide committees as assigned. Develop and manage Board fundraising capacity.
- Other Responsibilities: Including but not limited to working with volunteers who support the Development Department. Train and lead other staff to support fundraising and marketing efforts. Member of Executive Management Team of the Agency.
- Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise Program Manager – Grants/Special Projects, Program Manager – Communication/Advocacy, and Development Assistant.
Qualifications of the Director of Development and Communication
- Bachelor’s degree in public relations or related field. Master’s preferred.
- Five years minimum experience in professional fundraising, including extensive experience in public relations. Strong partnership and event planning skills.
- Must possess the skills to work with and motivate staff, board members and other volunteers. Strong interpersonal and writing skills. Computer and donor data base knowledge. Proven management and leadership capabilities.
