PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Director of Development is responsible for cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding relationships with current and prospective donors, developing and executing an annual fundraising plan, developing a planned giving program, developing a communication strategy, and managing the organization’s special events. The Director of Development will be able to work well independently with input from President/CEO and will have creative latitude in areas such as individual giving campaigns, the strategic annual fundraising plan, planned giving program, special events management, and implementation of Strategic Plan objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Development Support

Fund development: Develop and manage fundraising activities for individual giving, grants, sponsorships, planned giving program, special events and others.

  • Annual Individual Giving: Carry out all fundraising and administrative efforts for Colorado Gives Day - Ensure that the appropriate organizational documents are in the Colorado Gives Day portal.
  • Brain Injury Awareness Month: Communicate with the MINDSOURCE team and coordinate ordering and distribution of Brain Injury Awareness month promotional materials each March as needed. Develop and lead all BI Awareness Month communications.
  • Grants: Engage as the point of contact for BIAC’s grant consultant providing relevant information and updates from appropriate staff members to grant consultant in a timely manner.
  • Sponsorships: Research, prospect, and solicit new donors and sponsors from Professional Intake Forms, event attendance lists, and other sources.
  • Planned giving: Develop and implement a planned giving program.
  • Corporate giving: Develop and implement a corporate giving program.

Fund planning: Develop and implement a strategic annual fundraising plan and fundraising calendar.

  • Develop strategic fundraising plan and budget on an annual basis with input from President/CEO as needed.
  • Establish goals and objectives for the fundraising plan to include major donors, individual giving, and sponsorships with minimal support from President/CEO as needed.

Donor and Sponsorship relations: Identify and cultivate relationships with current donors/sponsors, research, prospect, and solicit new donors/sponsors, and manage all stewardship activities for the organization.

  • With President/CEO, maintain positive relationships with existing sponsors, donors, and foundations.
  • Sponsorship benefits, cultivation, and recognition: Fulfill recognition and sponsorship benefits in a timely manner according to underwriting agreement between sponsor and BIAC.

Data Entry, Collection, Reporting and Evaluation: Ensure records, reports, and promotional material collection for all fundraising activities are timely, complete, and accurate.

  • Within two weeks of each special event: solicit feedback, compile, and review financial outcomes, and debrief with staff, Board, and volunteers as appropriate.
  • Within one month of each special event, submit a summary report to President/CEO.

Special Events & Volunteer Management

Special Events Management: Coordinate, manage, attend, and oversee all BIAC special events.

  • Organize and execute three existing special events each year including: Pikes Peak Challenge, Brain Injury Conference, Cathleen’s Cause golf tournament.
  • Confirm dates for special events at least six months prior to the event date.
  • Manage all special events logistics including, but not limited to venues, food and beverage, speaker coordination and schedule, contractor and volunteer coordination, silent auction items, and permits.
  • Support President/CEO as needed to market special events.

Volunteer Management: Recruit, manage, and coordinate volunteers to support special events and complete references and background checks when necessary.

Budgeting

Oversee and provide ongoing management of fundraising budgets.

  • Keep an approximate running total of expenses and provide monthly summaries to President/CEOby request.
  • Ensure budgets are met; proactively and in a timely manner seek ways to stay within budget and seek support from CEO as needed.
  • Support annual budget development, planning, implementation, and evaluation.

Communications

Communications Oversight: Ensure branding, messaging, and collateral consistency externally (e.g., social media platforms, email blasts, email signatures, documents,BIAC website, print materials) for all fundraising efforts.

  • Fund Development
    1. Develop a communication plan for all fundraising efforts including, but not limited to special events and annual individual giving campaigns.
    2. Develop and lead communication efforts according to communication plan including but not limited to email campaign blasts, emails, social media posts, and printed materials.
    3. Coordinate, develop, and review marketing collateral with designer.
    4. Review and update website content as needed.

External Newsletter: Review and provide edits for BIAC’s Head STRONG newsletter

Media: Field media inquiries by referring to the appropriate staff, and submit media releases as needed

Meetings & Teams: Provide development support to BIAC’s Special Events Committees, President/CEO, and the Board and its fundraising commitees

  1. Chair the Pikes Peak Challenge steering committee.
  2. Attend, actively participate, and present in Special Events Committees (Cathleen’s Cause, Annual Conference) meetings.
  3. Attend, participate, present, and provide decision-making support to President/CEO, Board of Directors, Board Fundraising Committee members as requested.
  4. With President/CEO, attend networking events to increase professional networks, sustain existing relationships, and enhance BIAC’s presence in the community.
  5. Strategic Plan Development & Monitoring: Attend and actively participate in Strategic Plan Committee meetings and quarterly meetings, as scheduled.

OTHER DUTIES:

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Qualifications

Relevant experience in a related field such as business/nonprofit development, marketing, communications.

  • Three years fundraising experience in cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors and sponsors.
  • Ability to track and evaluate successful marketing outcomes.
  • Interest in working in a nonprofit setting that serves people with cognitive disabilities and/or behavioral health challenges.
  • Knowledge and experience with social media tools (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter)
  • Willingness to travel for meetings and events within the state sometimes after hours and on weekends.
  • Knowledge of Salesforce or other CRM systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Six or more years of experience managing a program in areas relevant to the position (donor development, donor management, marketing, communications).
  • Experience working in a nonprofit setting.
  • Experience with a board of directors or development committee in reaching fundraising goals and objectives.
  • Experience with developing email blasts through Mailchimp.
  • Knowledge and sensitivity toward the needs of persons with disabilities.
  • Knowledge and experience applying person-centered and culturally competent practices in interactions with clients, co-workers, professionals, and other community members.
