Reporting to the AVP of Student Affairs, the Director of Community Standards and Wellbeing assumes primary leadership across campus for creating, managing, and delivering educational programming related to student wellbeing, including educating the campus community around student behavioral concerns stemming from mental health challenges, trauma, issues of structural racism or inequity. This position will have direct oversight and responsibility for the student conduct and judicial process, will oversee the partnership with the Center for Human Development and the partnership with the JED Foundation, will chair the CARE Team and the Mental Health Task Force, will oversee the DHE Mental Health Grant and subsequent grants in this area, and will partner deeply with departments such as Campus Police, Office for Students with Disabilities & Deaf Services, Student Life, and the Office of People, Culture, and Equity. This position will contribute to Strategic Plan metrics related to course completion and retention.
  • Manages student and organizational conduct cases including formal hearings, administrative resolutions and mediations; Recommends and imposes sanctions designed to foster student learning and development in accordance with the college’s disciplinary process.
  • Uses Maxient to document, track and maintain reports of all Code of Conduct allegations and violations, active disciplinary cases and sanctions.
  • Chairs the college’s Concerns Assessment, Referral & Education (CARE) Team; utilize Maxient to manage CARE team cases and follow-up.
  • In collaboration with the Office for Students with Disabilities & Deaf Services, the Campus Police Department and the Center for Human Development (CHD), develops and delivers educational programming to address current trends in behaviors of concern and best practices to support students; facilitates dialogue within the campus community.
  • Serves as the lead in the training, advisement, and education of students, faculty, staff and administrators regarding students rights and responsibilities, the Student Code of Conduct, and other Community Standards.
  • Collaborate with the Department of Student Life and The Center for Human Development to provide educational programming to the campus community designed to improve students’ holistic wellness.
  • Conducts regular equity audits related to the student conduct process, policies, procedures, and sanctions; recommends improvements based on audit results.
  • Annually review and update the Student Handbook, Student Code of Conduct, and web resources supporting the work of Student Affairs.
  • Interacts collaboratively with on campus staff and programs as well as with off-campus groups involved in student wellbeing.
  • Contributes to a positive office environment and student-centered approach; Performs administrative tasks in support of the department.
  • Creates and inclusive and supportive connection to all students; actively supports diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Periodically works evenings and weekends to participate in college activities.

    • Master’s degree in Social Work, Education, Counseling, Psychology, or closely related field;
    • Three (3) years experience working in higher education and/or training that includes student affairs, residence life, advising, counseling, or student engagement;
    • Knowledge of student development theory and familiarity with current practices and legal affairs related to student judicial affairs;
    • Critical Thinking, Relationship Building, Organizational and problem-solving skills;
    • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population.
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Experience in judicial affairs or mediation;
    • Training in trauma-informed approaches, Motivational Interviewing, Mental Health First Aid, and Emotional CPR;
    • Demonstrated ability to listen effectively and communicate clearly;
    • Demonstrated experience in building a climate that elevates equity, diversity and inclusion;
    • Experience working in a community college or a similar institution of higher education, community organization, or large institution.

    Salary Range: $72,993.88 - $80,590.85/year plus a comprehensive State benefits packageHours: 37.5 hrs./weekFunding Source: State
