JOB DESCRIPTION
Director of Development & Communications
REPORTS TO: Chief Operating Officer
DESCRIPTION: The Director of Development & Communications works closely with the Chief Operating Officer, Executive Director, Board of Trustees and Friends of LCCPS to direct fundraising and Communications efforts for the school.
Key Duties:
- Increase awareness of LCCPS in the community and throughout the state; including developing marketing materials, attending community events and other duties as assigned.
- Develop and lead capital campaign efforts for multi-million dollar capital campaign.
- Work with the Board of Trustees and School Leadership to raise funds for the school through the research and management of opportunities for grant-writing, fund raising and other development activities and events
- Develop communications and fundraising strategic plans to be reviewed and approved by the COO, Executive Director, Board of Trustees and Friends of LCCPS;
- Design, establish, manage and monitor communications initiatives through on line and hardcopy newsletters, e-mails, mailings, social media, website content, and other communication avenues; including school marketing for student and, faculty recruitment;
- Aggressively build and maintain a donor base; and on-going communication with donors. Directly manage and maintain donor database.
- Work with School Leadership to build and manage a collaborative, productive. working relationship with Friends of LCCPS. Acts as liasion to the Friends of LCCPS on fundraising and Communications matters. Coordinate Friends of LCCPS meetings.
- Develops press releases and media materials along with establishing relations with local and state media outlets
- Develops branding and promotes public relations efforts.
- Promote relationships between the school and political, education, and business leaders in the city, region and state;
- Plan, organize and manage community relations events to publicize, raise funds and promote the school; Support advocacy work for the school in collaboration with the schools supporting agencies.
- Develop; all public documents and marketing materials; hard copy and on-line
- Represent the School at external events
- Support and assist with Alumni relations.
- Support Board of Trustees communications, scheduling and postings.
- Coordinate and develop school wide communications including parent surveys and assist coordination of interpretation/translation assignments for school/parent communications.
- Send out a school wide quarterly newsletter in September, December, March and June.
- Support Parent and Teacher fund raising efforts
- Support financial and accountability oversight of all development operations in collaboration with the business office.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Demonstrated experience in effective public relations/communications/marketing;
- Demonstrated experience in capital campaigns and fund raising;
- Strong leadership skills and personal drive;
- Outstanding communications skills and appreciation for diversity; ability to work collaboratively in a large, diverse organization essential
- Passion for children and their families;
- An entrepreneurial spirit and a proven track record;
- Strategic planning experience;
- Strong organizational skills and the demonstrated ability to manage multiple, discrete projects;
- Appreciation for and interest in programs to improve educational achievement;
- Demonstrated success in working in a collaborative environment;
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Experience with social media preferred; openness to learn to use social media essential
Training and Experience:
- Prior experience in capital campaigns, fundraising, grant writing, and Communications are essential;
- Minimum of 5 years in a related field.
- Bachelors Degree required, Masters Degree preferred. Experience may substitute for education requirements at the discretion of the school.
- Prior experience in a leadership role in a non-profit or educational institution.
