Position Summary:

The Director of Activations and Community Engagement (DACE), reporting to the Vice President of Arts and Culture, will develop and manage the backbone of the Arts and Culture programmatic Activations and productions, with a focus on managing and being the lead on Everyone250, Embrace Ideas Festival and Embrace Honors. This role manages a rapid flow of work, handling many daily tasks spanning multiple projects, with a need to toggle between big picture, long-term strategic priorities, and time sensitive details. This role will apply racial justice and spatial justice concepts to the development and execution of Embrace Boston’s Activations and productions.

Essential Functions:

  • Iterate and implement a comprehensive Community Engagement strategy aligned with annual activations.
  • Engage with low-income and minoritized communities to address systemic racism and issues related to economic injustice through the lens of Arts & Culture initiatives.
  • Work with and supervise the Activations and Community Engagement Manager to plan, organize, and oversee annual activations events, programs, and initiatives.
  • Affirm, cultivate, establish and steward relationships with community members and leaders, participants, vendors, agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure equity and Community perspectives are considered in decision-making processes.
  • Operate on strategic, managerial, and hands-on levels to help guide Embrace Boston’s vision and impact across programmatic functions.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of existing programs and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Develop and implement communication plans and assets about activities and initiatives throughout various channels, including social media, newsletters, and public forums.
  • Collaborate with external partners to develop joint initiatives that benefit the arts and culture priorities.
  • Provide administrative and strategic support to a rapid flow of projects.
  • With Activations and Community Engagement Manager, coordinate and support special projects.
  • Develop and manage partner ecosystem strategy and value propositions of different types of partnerships and/or specific partners, working cross-functionally with community, arts associations, higher education, non-profit, and business.
  • Support Embrace Boston’s Development team, including the cultivation, stewardship, and interconnectivity across funding opportunities of the Arts & Culture agenda.
  • Lead role in working with partner organizations around key issues serving as a liaison to local, state, and partner organizations on Arts & Culture initiatives.
  • Individuals assigned to this position may perform other duties as assigned.

  • Accountability for timely completion of responsibilities of self and ability to influence others.
  • Strong knowledge of Google Suite, CRM, marketing and communication platforms. Design applications a plus!
  • Ability to solve problems independently with limited direction.
  • Mature, interpersonal manner with ability to interact calmly with a diverse group of people.
  • A team player that can motivate supervisees and hold them accountable.
  • An innovative, driven and effective person with a “can do” attitude and participative work style.
  • A goal-oriented person who can plan for the long-term and execute stated objectives.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands:

  • Ability to work at a workstation for long periods of time.
  • Ability to use a keyboard for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds, occasionally.
  • Ability to work remotely and on-site as required.
  • Willingness and ability to work outside the regularly scheduled workday as needed.
