Job description

FUNCTION:
The Director of Communications & PR will develop, lead and implement a communications and PR strategy to consistently advance Shared Hope International’s mission through writing, personal outreach and engagement, and proactive representation in community events. Diligent monitoring of current events in relevant fields and an eye for opportunity to engage and inform the public is essential. Knowledge of human trafficking issues is required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Develop and implement an aggressive Communications & PR campaign toward traditional and social media.
  • Become knowledgeable of SHI history, publications, and advocacy and employ the information for various external communications pieces.
  • Stay abreast of current news, work, and publications to communicate connection with SHI efforts and mission, externally and internally.
  • Develop compelling narratives in short and long form to engage and collaborate with journalists and influencers.
  • Use Meltwater and other tools to research, monitor and engage press, issue media releases, and implement a follow up strategy to monitor and achieve placement.
  • Initiate and nurture relationships with press engaged in our issues.
  • Review website content regularly for quality, functionality, and traffic; collaborate with program teams to ensure current and priority content; oversee website design contractor.
  • Coordinate with Growth Strategies to provide compelling communications content for fundraising purposes.
  • Monitor and review brand consistency and recommend updates or changes as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing/advertising, public relations or related field or 5+ years of relevant professional communications experience.
  • Experience in leading a communication/PR strategy, preferably for a non-profit organization or cause-related agency.
  • Experience and success working with a team, both as leader and supporter.
  • Knowledge of the faith-based community and ability to communicate a Christian message in written and verbal presentations.
  • Proven problem-solving skills and capacity to adapt quickly to changing and often challenging environments.
  • Flexibility for travel.

SALARY AND BENFITS: Starting salary from annually, based upon education and experience with annual performance-based salary increases. SHI’s full-time employee benefits include 401K employer match up to 3% of your salary, health insurance benefits with $100/month employee contribution, ten paid holidays and a generous PTO policy.

Interviews of all qualified applicants will be in person at the Washington, DC Shared Hope office. Shared Hope cannot pay or reimburse travel costs for interviewees. The desired start date will be as soon as a qualified person is found for this position.
