Job description

Job Summary

Assists in planning, organizing, directing and evaluation of fund-raising activities for United Way’s Annual Campaign and manages and coaches assigned campaign staff. Has specific oversight of Business Development.

Responsibilities

· Supervises and supports volunteer efforts in specific campaign divisions.

· Supervises, motivates, evaluates and coaches assigned campaign staff.

· Assists in preparation and execution of training programs for campaign volunteers.

· Oversees & assists in development of new markets through prospecting, new business verification process and media opportunities.

· Builds relationships with community leaders and corporations.

· Communicates United Way community efforts to individuals, corporations and community leaders through individual visits or public presentations.

· Prepares required campaign reports and shares campaign strategies with volunteers.

· Acts as United Way representative at various community functions, through association or civic memberships and appropriate community or professional committees.

· Performs duties and projects as assigned by the Vice President of Annual Campaign or designee.

· Oversee United Ways growth in our outlying counties: Blount, Chilton, Shelby, St. Clair, & Walker.

Qualifications

Knowledge & Skills

Requires working knowledge of the community — health and human service system, nonprofit organizations and their structure, business and industry, and social and economic structure of the community.

Evidence of the following — ability to grasp ideas and translate them into positive actions through problem solving skills producing results; ability to communicate effectively; ability to organize and supervise projects involving volunteers and staff: and ability to motivate self and others.

Education

Graduation from college required.

Experience

2-5 years United Way or other fund-raising organization, social service agency or in commerce industry is required. Staff supervision and/or team management preferred. Sales and/marketing experience helpful.

Required

Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and proof of automobile insurance.

Working Conditions

Office environment; sales and relationship calls, local and regional travel, occasional overtime required.
