Director Of Accounting

As the Director of Accounting, you will be a highly visible member of the Accounting Department reporting to the Treasurer. You will also have exposure to the CFO and top management at the Company. You will have extensive Statutory insurance accounting knowledge and month-end close management experience. The role provides opportunities to collaborate with a variety of teams across the organization, as we strive to continually enhance and improve processes. Demonstrate an Understanding of the Company's products, services, and the required regulatory reporting requirements and disclosures.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for the timely and accurate completion of all quarterly and annual statutory financial statements and all related filings, ensuring compliance with NAIC and other regulatory requirements
• Reviews quarterly and annual Statutory financial statements, and other financial reports and regulatory filings for accuracy
• Manage month-end statutory accounting financial close process, including review of journal entries and key account reconciliations
• Oversees the development, analysis, and distribution of key internal financial reports
• Perform technical accounting research to determine correct statutory accounting treatment of complex or unusual business transactions
• Ensure compliance with statutory accounting standards
• Oversees the monthly intercompany accounting processes
• Investigates financial results; understands and communicates the impact to management
• Manage all statutory regulatory filings, state department of insurance information requests, and audit inquiries
• Maintain effective relationships with reinsurance brokers/partners
• Liaisons with external auditors and provides necessary support
• Provide timely accurate data to feed carrier financial forecasting models
• Lead response activities for all regulatory inquiries, including state financial exams
• Ability to effectively lead, coach, and develop the team while encouraging creativity and innovation
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects
• Ability to exercise professional judgment and assume responsibility for decisions which have an impact on people and quality of service
• Leads process improvement initiatives that enhance the efficiency and accuracy of financial reporting
• Assist on any merger and acquisition activity
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Required:

• Minimum 7 -10 years insurance accounting/industry experience with progressive duties and responsibilities
• Strong knowledge of insurance accounting on a Statutory basis
• Comfortable working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
• Exceptional history of managing and developing staff
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams
• Possess an agent of change mentality
• Experience with assumed and ceded reinsurance contracts, accounting, and reporting
• Knowledge of MGA organizations preferred but not necessary
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office
• Claims experience/knowledge preferred but not required
