THE IMPACT YOU CAN HAVE:
As the Director of Media Strategy, you will play a pivotal role in leading and shaping Ulta Beauty's Media Strategy and activation, including both brand equity marketing and UB Media, Ulta Beauty's retail media network. UB Media leverages our valuable first party customer data and allows our brands to target our audiences across programmatic and addressable media in a seamless, end-to-end experience that is highly personalized, and data driven.
Reporting to the Vice President of Media, you will be responsible for leading a talented team and collaborating with internal and external cross-functional partners to drive brand awareness, engagement, and business growth through integrated media campaigns. The Director must be skilled in translating business and marketing objectives into digital-first media plans that drive direct consumer response in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. This leader is equal parts strategic and analytical with a passion for data, consumer insights, new technology, and culture.

CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead development of full funnel media strategies, campaign activation, optimization and measurement across all media channels and emerging platforms to achieve Ulta Beauty and UB Media client business objectives.
  • Collaborate with brand partner clients to develop data-driven audience plan and optimal mix of UB Media solutions to drive business impact.
  • Monitor KPIs to evaluate effectiveness of campaigns for continuous optimization to drive revenue in competitive retail market and to inform future strategies.
  • Manage external agencies and vendors to develop media strategies, negotiate contracts, and stay abreast of industry trends.
  • Build and lead external media publisher relationships to drive innovative and industry leading partnerships.
  • Drive a test and learn approach to media effectiveness working actively to build new and leverage existing measurement capabilities.
  • Keep a pulse on evolving media landscape, beauty industry, audience trends, culture, and competitive activity to spark innovation in marketing efforts.
  • Oversee Grand Opening and Local Marketing strategies and planning.
  • Develop and manage media budgets / forecasts, optimizing spend to maximize ROI and achieve business goals.
  • Provide regular financial reporting and insights to leadership to demonstrate the impact of media investment.
  • Lead, inspire and develop direct reports to foster a culture of growth and innovation.

THE ESSENTIALS FOR SUCCESS:
  • Bachelor's degree in media, marketing, business, or related field; master's degree preferred.
  • 12+ years of experience in full funnel media planning, buying and activation across all channels with a passion for the beauty industry; agency experience preferred.
  • Must have significant experience in developing and activating strategies for digital channels utilizing strong analytical ability to build audience and tactical plans using customer data.
  • Programmatic media experience across Retail Media Platforms is a plus.
  • 5+ years of strong talent management skills motivating and developing high-performing team with people-first leadership orientation.
  • Both a big picture strategic thinker, with the ability to translate quantitative and qualitative data/insights into media strategies, and a highly organized "doer," with a data-driven mentality and a bias towards action.
  • Successful track record of collaborating with cross-functional teams and external partners on strategy development and execution to ensure optimal channel cross-channel planning, synchronization, and performance .
  • Strong ability to lead through influence to gain buy-in from stakeholders.
  • Superior communication and presentation skills, both written and oral, with the ability to articulate complex strategies to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Self-motivated with experience managing through ambiguity to move planning forward with speed.
  • Excellent project and budget management skills with experience managing complexity across multiple initiatives.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment with frequent optimizations and highly skilled in prioritization with a strong attention to detail.
  • Travel required up to 20% of the time.

* Our Flexwork Program includes, s ix in-office days per month for individuals living within a commutable distance from Bolingbrook, IL (three in-office days per month for others); occasional travel to additional locations, including stores and distribution centers, as needed*
