Job Summary

This position manages physician employee relations support for NorthShore, in partnership with VP, HRBP for Medical Group.   This role serves as an internal consultant to managers and employee relations specialists regarding complex physician and employee relations matters, NorthShore policy interpretation and application, wage and hour compliance, FMLA, Harassment policy and Leave of Absence policies.  Position will require minimal travel between NorthShore entities.

  • Location: Skokie, IL / Hybrid
  • Full Time/Part Time: Full Time
  • Hours: Monday-Friday during normal business hours

 

What you will need:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field required. Master's degree in related field strongly preferred
  • Certification: HR certification (ex. SPHR, SHRM-CP) preferred
  • Experience:
    • Seven or more years of relevant and/or progressive experience in Employee Relations, preferably in a healthcare setting
    • Three or more years of leadership experience preferred
  • Skills:
    • Demonstrated ability to prepare and present written material (investigation reports, proposals, EEOC position statements, project summaries) as required.
    • Strong attention to details.
    • Experience and interest in working successfully in a fast-paced, multi-site, complex and changing environment.
    • Ability to assist managers in the resolution of personnel and labor issues through advice and counsel.
    • Ability to prioritize and organize work and work independently.
    • Demonstrated ability to learn about internal customers' business operations, needs and challenges.
    • Strong customer focus orientation.
    • Experience in supervising and developing team members
    • Previous experience in conflict-resolution and mediation between employees within various levels within the organization.
    • Knowledge of union awareness/prevention and labor strategies and state and federal employment laws pertaining to labor organizing.
    • Demonstrates in-depth and current knowledge of local, state and federal laws pertaining to employment policies and practices.
    • Must have intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

 

What you will do:

 

  • Physician Relations
    • Independently serves as an internal consultant to managers and physician leaders regarding physician and complex or elevated employee relations matters, NorthShore policy interpretation and application. Provides recommended course of action related to employee relations matters while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and physician employment agreements.
    • Conducts thorough investigations and recommends appropriate resolution to address issues.  Prepares written response when appropriate.
    • Collaborates with Manager, Legal and Professional Staff Office to prepare and review documentation ensuring accuracy and compliance with NS policies, physician employment agreements and applicable law.
    • Investigates and responds to Corporate Compliance complaints.
    • Responds to charges, in partnership with Legal, from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Department of Human Rights and others, by gathering relevant information, completing written responses and attending hearings if appropriate.
    • Represents NorthShore in the unemployment hearing process by gathering relevant information, educating manager, submitting response and participating in the hearing.
    • Informs VP, HRBP for Medical Group, AVP, Human Resources Employee Relations and/or HR Business Partner of trends in physician/employee relations matters, unresolved issues and potential legal issues

 

  • Physician and Employee Relations Strategy
    • Maintains and analyzes physician/employee relations data, prepares reports and meets with business leaders to review trends and opportunities for improvement.
    • Partners with the HR Business Partner Physician Relations and department leaders to address opportunities related to physician/employee relations trends
      (e.g. provides training, facilitates discussion, etc.).
    • Assesses employee relations tools for customers on an ongoing basis and develops new/additional tools, as necessary.
    • Serves as a trusted advisor to the Employee Relations Specialists, by providing consultation to Employee Relations Specialists in employee relations cases.  May supervise when needed.
    • Attends and presents at customers' staff meetings, as necessary.

 

  • Policy Development and Maintenance
    • Maintains knowledge of changes in employment law and how it applies to current policies. 
    • Creates or modifies policies to keep up with changing laws.
    • Assists in creating standard operating procedures aligned to key policies for the employee relations team.
