Job Summary
Oversee and manage all Financial Planning processes for Columbia Gas Utilities. Direct the financial analysis of various strategic projects related to the segment, such as proposed legislation, regulations and implementation of new technologies or processes. Direct the economic analysis of proposed capital projects as required.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Accurate and reliable financial forecasts and analyses for the segment
- Analysis, development and recommendations for financing requirements, including the amount, mix, duration and timing
- Accurate, ongoing income statement, balance sheet and cash flow analysis
- Comprehensive coordination with regulatory initiatives/filings
- Growth in net operating earnings consistent with corporate and business segment plans
- Meet or exceed financial targets
- Direct the preparation of comprehensive assessments and economic analyses of potential projects
- Lead analysis of segment's financial results
- Assist in development of documents and presentations for use with NiSource senior management and segment leaders
- Publicize and promote capabilities and availability of financial analysis throughout the company
- Lead preparation of economic analysis to determine capital allocation, prioritization and other projects to assure financial targets are attained
- Prepare testimony and exhibits for rate case filings and answers to interrogatories; serve as expert witness when necessary
- Work closely with regulatory departments to analyze filing options, recommend action and coordinate supporting documentation to ensure strategies and outcomes which positively impact segment's financial results
- Lead development of financial forecasts for segment
- Support senior management with tracking progress against goals, preparation of board materials, and internal and external financial communications
Required Qualifications for Position
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or related area
- Minimum ten years' experience in finance, accounting or related field
- Proficient financial analysis and modeling skills, including an understanding of and ability to calculate discounted cash flow, internal rate of return, economic value added, various financial ratios, earnings per share, and other significant metrics
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
- Knowledge of advanced financial analysis techniques
- Knowledge of PC-based and mainframe applications
- Effectively manages and develops employees to build a motivated, high-performing team
- Sets and communicates goals, measures accomplishments, holds people accountable for delivering results.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills at all levels of the organization. Is skilled at getting individuals, teams, and an entire organization to perform at a higher level and to embrace change; negotiates skillfully to achieve a fair outcome or promote common cause; communicates and executes on a compelling vision.
- Excellent leadership presence; can establish credibility quickly and possesses the ability to develop productive business relationships
Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position
- MBA
- CPA
- Six or more years of utility experience
- Understanding of rate design and how it affects regulated utilities
