The Director of Facilities Services will manage and supervise all non-maintenance facilities support services including facilities project management, environmental services and custodial support, water/electrical/gas/trash utilities services accounts, energy management efforts and non-school building operations support. The incumbent in this position will serve as the Facilities Department's expert in preparing and reviewing contracting documents such as, Request for Proposal and Invitation for Bid and oversees all contracted Facilities project work. The Director will work closely with the Capital Programs Department, providing expert knowledge in project development, including design requirements, basis of design, and architectural and engineering project planning document reviews. The Director supervises the Utilities Services Coordinator, Environmental Services Coordinator, Building Manager and Facilities Project Manager.
Essential Duties
- Plans, schedules, and supervises Facilities Department's contracted projects
- Prepares scope of work documents and contract solicitations
- Evaluates bids and proposals
- Oversees and reviews on-site contracted work to ensure safety, quality and completeness standards are being met
- Works closely with the Director of Maintenance Services and the Capital Programs and Academics Departments, serving as a liaison between schools and contractors to schedule and deconflict work
- Evaluates facility material conditions and makes recommendations regarding priorities for facility and equipment upgrades and repairs
- Assists the Director of Maintenance Services with special projects, information gathering and preparing reports
- Works closely with Maintenance Shop Coordinators, Supervisors and Foremen, determining whether maintenance needs will be most efficiently, effectively, and economically completed through in-house or contracted services
- Develops and supervises expenditures for the Utilities Services, Environmental Services and Building Manager budgets
- Monitors monthly budget reports, manages purchase card expenditures, tracks purchase card invoices; prepares and submits invoices for payment; maintains financial integrity of the purchasing process
- Monitors departmental practices, supplies, and expenditures regularly to ensure efficient use of resources
- Manages department HR functions including conducting performance evaluations and making recommendations for personnel assignments, hiring, firing and disciplinary action within the department
- Collaborates with the Director of Maintenance Services to develop the Maintenance Department Budget and track expenditures
- Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator
Required Education
Bachelor's Degree in Maintenance or Construction Management, Civil or Architectural Engineering, or a related field or Equivalent experience (8 years - 2 years of similar work level experience = 1 year of college); A combination of experience and education may be used to meet the Bachelors Degree requirement

Experience Qualifications
Minimum of 6 years of experience in construction or facilities operations and/or maintenance at a management or supervisory level. Qualifying experience would include construction site supervisor, building maintenance manager, plant engineer, industrial shift supervisor/foreman or equivalent military service positions. In-depth knowledge of HVAC systems preferred.
