Job description

The head of Career Development and Transformation will play a leading role in helping Morningstar’s employees successfully establish their first jobs, foster a growth mindset, and continuously develop so they can have thriving careers at Morningstar. This team will focus on re-imagining the flagship Morningstar Development Program – a multi-year, high touch, global development experience that starts at the internship level and runs through the first two years of our employees’ careers. Additionally, the director will help us pioneer a mid-Career Development opportunity supporting key leaders through rotational experiences across the company’s varied businesses. This role will sit on the Talent Management leadership team, manage a global team and partner across our talent and People & Culture teams to bring a state-of-the art set of programs to Morningstar.

Ideal candidates for the role will have experience in both leading and transforming entry level and/or rotational programs in large global organizations, have set and delivered against a strategy to attract a diverse mix of program participants at scale, and created onboarding and ongoing developmental experiences that establish a pipeline of key talent for the organization. Additionally, they have the skills and passion to help create scalable resources to support career growth as individuals. This position is based in our Chicago office.

What You’llDo

  • Lead the early careers team to develop a plan for transforming our entry level program, the Morningstar Development Program, with an evolving company.

  • Define the guiding principles anchoring Career Development and advancement at Morningstar and create a strategy to support key career progression here.

  • Work with our business leaders to conduct global needs analysis and recommend solutions that support key strategic priorities for the company.

  • Provide subject matter expertise, counseling and guidance across our talent management initiatives with a view of industry best practices on Career Development.

  • Redesign and drive an expedited plan to deliver the Morningstar Development Program that meets current business needs and builds a diverse bench of talent.

  • Design, propose, and implement a rotational program for mid-career rising stars to accelerate their Development and impact on the organization.

  • Work in parallel with talent management program and process leads to leverage learning and leadership development capabilities to deliver best-in-class experiences.

  • Define and deploy the measurement strategy to determine the impact of career programs. Partner with project management and communications to create a change management approach to help drive smooth adoption of updated programs.

  • Oversee implementation of new program builds through successful stakeholder engagement, partnership with operations, DEI, and the global talent management team.

  • Manage a global team to deliver a consistent core experience while operationalizing in a localized context.

What We’re Looking For

  • 10+ years business experience.

  • Experience in a leadership role with a demonstrated track record in implementing innovative approaches to talent development challenges, especially in early careers programs.

  • Preferably experience in both talent acquisition and development with a focus on selecting, developing, and placing emerging talent.

  • Experience at a global company where you’ve developed strong leaders and built a high-performance culture.

  • Exceptional results orientation with demonstrated personal initiative and customer centric perspectives.

  • Ability to take a design thinking approach to optimize Career Development solutions.

  • Adaptable to work with shifting priorities and comfort operating in an evolving, fast paced environment.

  • Track record of developing and leading change efforts with direct experience in delivering transformative solutions.

  • Extensive experience influencing and gaining commitment from senior leadership and other key stakeholders in a complex organizational structure.

  • Ability to analyze and interpret data and leverage those insights into critical decisions.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Able to work under tight deadlines and plan, organize and carry out multiple, detailed tasks.

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience.
