Position: Direct Support Professional (DSP) Status: Hourly/Non-Exempt
Department: Programs
Job Summary:
The Direct Support Professional is responsible for the care, hygiene, health, training, development, safety and supervision of the participants of Harbor House services and programs..
This position reports to the Program Manager.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Provide toileting and hygiene assistance to the participants enrolled in the ADT program
Document all toileting and bathroom assistance provided to the participant
Provide supervision of participants in all areas of the agency such as the patio, and, the kitchen at lunchtime
Assist in providing regularly scheduled activities that are designed to foster the acquisition of skills, build positive social behavior and interpersonal competence, and foster greater independence and personal choice
Offer identified opportunities that enable the participant to develop the ability to communicate effectively with others, such as supervisors, co-workers, and customers (the public)
Regular attendance at program meetings to discuss plans and developments affecting program area.
Must complete required training for administration of participant medications (when applicable)
Must be able to assist participants in need of assistance with their personal care and other daily living activities.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
Education and Experience:
High School diploma or GED required
One year’s experience in the field of developmental disabilities preferred or CAN certification
Must be able to acquire and maintain CPR and First Aid Certification.
Physical Requirements:
Alternating periods of sitting, standing and walking for up to 8 hour shifts.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
