Summary/Objective
RMH-NY seeks an experienced frontline fundraiser to help lead efforts to systematically target, cultivate and solicit individual, foundation, and corporate donors at the high five- and six- figure level in the context of a multi-year comprehensive fundraising campaign.
The Development Officer will be a key player, adding immediate impact to an expanding Development Department and major gifts team. The Development Officer’s primary responsibility will be to manage and grow a portfolio of high five- and six-figure donors and prospects to help fuel RMH-NY’s strategic expansion to serve more patients and families.
The salary range for this role will be 100K - 120K. This will be a hybrid schedule Monday through Friday, 9 AM – 5 PM.
Role/Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
- Manage a personal portfolio of major gift prospects and donors with an emphasis on securing multi-year commitments
- Aggressively implement a structured program for fostering strong relationships with targeted individual and institutional donor constituencies, involving where appropriate the CDO, volunteers, and other members of the RMH-NY family as appropriate
- Secure new donors while systematically deepening engagement, retaining their support, and raising their sights
- Engage volunteers, including the involvement, identification, training and support of fundraising volunteers in outreach and solicitation
Responsibilities:
- Personally drive fundraising results through direct solicitations, and by supporting the direct solicitations of staff and volunteers
- Open doors to new prospective donors with high five- and six-figure capacity to build the major gifts pipeline
- Support and contribute in a comprehensive campaign for RMH-NY, an effort that is currently in the planning phase
- Help implement clear standards for donor targeting, moves management, stewardship, and recognition
- Assist in the development of materials that tell the RMH-NY story, ensuring that they are regular, timely, impactful, consistent and address the interests of donors
- Maintain complete records on the assigned accounts, results, and campaign activities using the CRM
Qualifications & Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in major gift fundraising and/or large fundraising campaign experience preferred.
- A history of year-over-year fundraising growth and achievement against personal fundraising goals
- Broad-based knowledge of and experience with various development activities including: planned giving, campaigns, major gift programs, direct solicitations, leveraging fundraising databases and support systems for donor segmentation, research and volunteer management
- An understanding of the mechanics of moves management and systematic donor engagement
- Special expertise in planned giving and donor communications is a plus
- Experience engaging volunteers and staff in the fundraising process
- A track record as an exceptional communicator, in writing as well as verbally; a good listener and strategist
- Individual must be an independent, self-starter who has a history of working with little direction and turning conceptual direction into executed strategies

- This job operates in an office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
- The office for this job is located in the same facility where RMH-NY provides temporary accommodations to pediatric patients and their families while the patients are undergoing active medical treatment at area hospitals. For some RMH-NY guests, medical treatment may include radiation therapy. While radiation therapy is never administered at RMH-NY, there is the potential for some radioactive material to be present in guests who have undergone radiation therapy. Based on radiation measurements performed throughout RMH-NY, it is not expected that individuals working at RMH will receive radiation doses that would exceed the general public limit (100 millirem per year).
- The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. Noise levels often increase with families and children who have temporary residence in the building as well as numerous guests and musical performers for special events.
- Some weekends, holidays and evening hours are necessary for this job.
Travel
- Some local/day travel will be necessary for the role.
