Development Communications Manager

The Development Communications Manager is an integral member of Mass Eye and Ear’s Development Team. Reporting to the Sr. Director of Development, Strategy and Communications,this person will partner with the Sr. Director and the Stewardship and Communications Manager to execute all aspects of the hospital’s Development Communications plan that focuses on soliciting, stewarding and building loyalty among Mass Eye and Ear donors at all giving levels. This person will manage Mass Eye and Ear’s comprehensive direct mail and donor acknowledgement programs and content related to Mass Eye and Ear’s Events and Trustee communications. This position requires a personable, detail-oriented individual with excellent interpersonal and written communication skills who can successfully work both independently and in collaboration with other staff members. They also need to be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, executing priorities efficiently and meeting deadlines.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Manages all aspects of Mass Eye and Ear’s comprehensive direct mail program, serving as the primary contact with our direct mail partner. Drives story development, resource identification, production and the review and approval process, ensuring that deadlines are met and that content is aligned with development priorities.
- Manages the department’s gift acknowledgement program, writing high quality personalized acknowledgements for all gifts and pledges over $10,000 to be sent by the President, Chiefs, Chairman and Faculty. Drafts and periodically refreshes templates for annual fund and event gifts. Ensures that each gift is acknowledged appropriately and promptly and that the information is tracked in the fundraising database.
- Manages the content and execution of Trustee Forum, a monthly newsletter to Mass Eye and Ear’s Trustees. Drives content development, production and the review process.
- Partners with the Events team to create and manage pre and post event communications as well as communications related to Team Eye and Ear.
- Writes stewardship reports, condolence letters, and other donor communications as needed.
- Drafts content for donor newsletters, development publications, the hospital blog, and other Development Communications as needed.
- Creates social media and web content to support development efforts.
- A Bachelor's degree in a related discipline.
- Five years of relevant experience in communications, development and/or health care.
- Exceptional writing skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail, organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines are essential.
- The ability to work well both independently and collaboratively with other team members, managing multiple projects and priorities.
- Ability to work in complex organizations.
