Job description

The Jordan Porco Foundation seeks an organized, outgoing, and eager Development Associate with a passion for the internal and external components of nonprofit fundraising in service of a cause.

The Jordan Porco Foundation (JPF)’s mission is to prevent suicide, promote mental health, and create a message of hope for youth and young adults. We accomplish this through uplifting and engaging programs that incorporate youth voice. In addition to nonprofit development experience (see below), a top candidate for this role will also possess high emotional intelligence and be comfortable with communications and learning about our mission above. The successful candidate will also be comfortable working both collaboratively and independently. Witty is also good. Or being a top-notch baker (who shares).

The Jordan Porco Foundation is an equal opportunity employer and follows a policy of administering all employment decisions and personnel actions without regard to actual or perceived race, color, religion, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions, national origin, sexual orientation, age, physical or mental disability, genetic disposition or carrier status, marital status, civil union status, veteran status, personal appearance (including height and weight), family responsibilities, matriculation or political affiliation, or any other category protected under applicable federal, state or local law. Our goal at JPF is to recruit, hire, and maintain a diverse workforce. The Foundation is committed to supporting and providing employees and applicants with Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and reasonable accommodation(s) as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA).

Position Overview

The Development Associate manages the administrative and communicative functions related to our fund development activities. Responsibilities include but are not limited to a variety of fundraising activities: gift processing, acknowledgements, and donor database management (bank deposits, data entry and reporting); supporting fund development events; and implementing electronic and direct mail solicitations, fundraising-related social media communications, and, in conjunction with the executive director, donor stewardship. The Development Associate also aids in the outreach and communication for our signature program, Fresh Check Day (see freshcheckday.com for more information). The Development Associate will work collaboratively with colleagues with financial responsibilities to ensure accurate accounting of revenue. We view this as a growth position in which the person hired will take on greater development responsibilities over time. Our hope is that as we grow, you grow! This role reports to the Executive Director, who has extensive development and nonprofit experience to learn from, and who, most importantly, occasionally buys us donuts.

The Development function at JPF raises critical and increasingly diverse revenue from various streams to support the internal operations and external programs that serve our mission. Revenue streams include individual, corporate, government, fee-for-service, and foundation donations and grants.

Responsibilities

  • In partnership with the Executive Director, support strategies for donor cultivation, solicitation, and donor stewardship, including meeting with assigned donors.
  • Develop expertise in the database and provide fundraising reporting, ensure data integrity.
  • Coordinate the processing of income (donations and program) and maintain accurate and confidential donor, vendor, and customer records.
  • Issue timely tax acknowledgments and thank yous for received contributions.
  • Help to reconcile bank deposits and donor database to ensure accuracy.
  • Support targeted campaigns by coordinating mailing lists (physical and digital), communicating with vendors, editing email outreach, creating graphics and social media content and/or campaigns.
  • Coordinate holiday cards and support tracking Board of Directors stewardship.
  • Assist in cultivating institutional giving through research and managing grant deliverables when necessary.
  • Support successful Development events in collaboration with the staff, with logistical and administrative support.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with all program and support staff; and
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Qualifications

This is a role for someone who has some experience on a successful Development team. The ideal candidate will have a zeal for learning and for finding additional resources for a small nonprofit to thrive.

Minimum qualifications include:

  • 2 - 3 years of demonstrated nonprofit fundraising experience.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Willingness to iterate on projects and approaches with the ability to recognize when to course correct as necessary.
  • Success working effectively with a small team, but also independently as a self-starter.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to articulate and compose clear messaging, and a strong constituent service orientation.
  • An aptitude to take initiative, ask questions, and problem-solve when necessary.
  • Appreciation for accuracy, commitment to excellence, and preference for collaborative work environments that deliver clear results.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities and deadlines.
  • Willingness to conduct in-depth research to ensure data accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent life experience (if you have many of the qualifications, skills, and qualities for this role we encourage you to apply).
  • Familiarity with social media content creation and utilizing platforms to engage and acquire donors.
  • Experience with donor databases/CRMs, Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and Microsoft 365.

This is a full-time, exempt position requiring approximately 36 hours per week, with occasional additional evening or weekend hours for fundraising events, donor meetings, etc. JPF is a hybrid organization. This role must be in-office at least two days per week, including Tuesdays.
