Design Engineer I

Ralphs-Pugh is a local, family-owned company over 100 years old and features a relaxed environment with fast-paced continuous improvement. Ralphs-Pugh manufactures a full line of conveyor rollers for a wide variety of domestic and international clientele. Producing these rollers requires numerous manufacturing processes including machining, welding, injection molding, forming, sanding, assembly, and special packaging. We are focused on further automation and continuous improvements of all processes as well as building up our Engineering Department to support the implementation of a new ERP system. We are seeking a Design Engineer to help make these goals a reality.

Job Summary:

The Design Engineer I is a hands-on, integral member of the team who develops creative solutions for improving plant operations, studies and introduces new process equipment for a wide range of factory applications and provides technical administrative support through the generation of pricing, bills of material, and 3D modeling / drawings.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Assist in developing new manufacturing equipment, including mechanical and electrical design, as well as control systems programing.

· Troubleshoot, repair, and improve existing manufacturing equipment.

· Investigate, design, and fabricate new equipment, including machining, assembly, and wiring.

· Gather data on existing manufacturing processes. Develop improvements to sourcing, yield, process efficiency, manufacturability, process control, and workflow.

· Maintain layout of shop floor. Collaborate with senior staff Engineer to improve workflow and layout.

· Design, generate, and maintain product documentation including models, drawings, specifications, bills of material, and engineering change orders.

· Support/perform training of production personnel on process and assembly methods.

· Support Customer Service/Sales by determining root causes for product deficiencies.

· Provide general engineering support to Operations, Maintenance, Purchasing, Administration, and plant staff.

· Generate quotes for potential new orders.

· Design new conveyor roller products. Evaluate existing designs to identify improvements.

· Perform all special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

• 0-2 years of mechanical design experience. Recent grads are encouraged to apply.
• Analytical background with entry level experience in mechanical, electrical and control systems.
• Experience with mechanical design in Solidworks or other 3D CAD software.
• Proficient with MS Office.
• Some experience with machining preferred.
• Experience collaborating in multi-disciplinary teams with diverse technical and cultural backgrounds.
• Strong communication skills.

Education:

· BS in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering or equivalent experience.

Working Conditions:

• Office environment
• Warehouse environment, which may include conditions typical of a manufacturing environment, including noise, extreme temperatures, humidity, odors, and dust.

Pay: $76,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
