Check out what our employees have to say. The City of De Pere is seeking a Deputy Clerk/Treasurer. This position will perform skilled accounting and administrative duties in support of City functions, departmental operations, and municipal elections. The Deputy Clerk/Treasurer will provide administrative support to the City Clerk and Finance Director/Treasurer.The typical work schedule is Monday – Thursday, 7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. However, the City of De Pere recognizes the importance of its employees having a proper work-life balance and supports alternative work arrangements which include alternative work schedules, flexible scheduling, and remote work to help meet your lifestyle needs. In addition, new employees receive three weeks of vacation time and four floating holidays per year beginning on the first day of work (prorated the first year). Salary: The full salary range for this position is $28.34 - $40.49 per hour, plus excellent benefits package. The anticipated starting salary is $28.34 - $34.01, depending on qualifications. The City of De Pere rewards employees for exceptional work performance with a pay for performance incentive program. Employees may be awarded a salary increase, bonus, or paid time off for exceptional work performance. Employees will be automatically enrolled in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS), a pension plan to help provide for financial security during retirement, which consists of employer and employee contributions.Public Student Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program: The City of De Pere is a qualifying employer under the PSLF Program. The PSLF Program is a federal program that is intended to encourage individuals to work in public service by forgiving the balance of their federal student loans. To qualify, the individual must have made 120 qualifying payments while employed by a qualifying employer. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The following duties are essential for this position. However, they are not to be construed as exclusive or all–inclusive. To be successful in this position, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may also be required or assigned. Provide customer service to internal and external customers; address and resolve customer questions as able and refer complex inquiries, requests, or complaints to other appropriate staff as needed.Assist with accounting, budgeting and analysis; perform month-end reconciliations; assist auditors with year-end audit.Oversee payment collections; reconcile daily cash deposits; assist in balancing cash drawers and troubleshoot imbalances.Assist Finance Director/Treasurer in managing the City’s banking relationships, cash management services and City-wide investment function, and monitor deposit and withdrawal of banking activity. Record investment transactions and reconcile related general ledger accounts and prepare monthly cash management and investment summary reports. Process fund transfers between bank accounts, wire transfers and ACH payment as needed.Prepare, balance, collect and reconcile the property tax process; coordinate and process tax settlements; assist with final settlement of delinquent real estate tax bills.Issue various licenses, including Operator, Liquor, and Solicitor, and provides related customer service activities. Facilitate the yearly liquor license renewal process and bi-annual operator license renewal process.Attend meetings as required, record and prepare minutes, process paperwork and correspondence. Assist in preparing the bi-monthly License Committee agenda.Performs Public Notary services to the community.Serve as an election official performing those duties as required by Wisconsin Statutes; assist in conducting City elections in accordance with legal requirements. Oversee absentee ballot process, distributing, recording, and filing absentee ballots.Serve as back-up to other departments; direct Municipal Court customers when Municipal Court Clerk is not present; field Building Inspection calls; receipt payments as necessary.Record, monitor, and compile room tax revenue reports on a monthly and annual basis.Act as the City Clerk or City Treasurer in their absence.Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in an Accounting or related field.Minimum Experience: One or more years of related work experience. A combination of education and experience may be considered.Minimum Certifications: Certified as a Municipal Treasurer and Municipal Clerk preferred. PHYSICAL AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position.
