The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Dentist for Monroe Correctional Complex located in Monroe, WA. This is a full-time position working Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:00pm.
The Dentist position functions as a member of Monroe Correctional Complex’s Health Services Unit and is responsible for providing and ensuring the provision of dental services that are consistent with the provisions of Department policy and Offender Health Plan dental protocols. In doing so, this position contributes to improvement in patient health, which contributes to a reduction in criminal recidivism.

Duties

Under the administrative supervision of the facility's Health Services Manager and clinical supervision of the department's Chief of Dentistry, DOC dentists provide medically necessary dental care to incarcerated patients. Dentists provide clinical supervision to dental assistants and dental hygienists consistent with the Washington State Laws (RCW, WAC) and department policies, protocols and health plan.


  • Reviews the patient's medical condition and consults with other medical and mental health providers, when appropriate.
  • Performs intraoral and extraoral examination of patients to determine oral health status.
  • Fabricates treatment plans.
  • Administers routine dental care and the treatment of urgent care dental problems that involve pain, trauma, and/or infection. This includes non-surgical and surgical extractions (within the limits of the facility and personal expertise), anterior endodontics, periodontics, and restorative dentistry.
  • Refers removable prosthodontic services to denturists..
  • Refers patients to off-site specialists, when appropriate.
  • Participates in regular facility drills; subject to emergency assignments to help with security in the event of an incarcerated individual(s) disturbance, civil disturbance, or natural disaster. Assist with the Trauma/Emergency Medical Team as deemed necessary.
  • Actively participates in quality improvement at the facility level to include monitoring quality indicators for improving patient care and clinic operations.
  • Attends in-service education programs, mandatory training, and employee meetings.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctor's degree DDS or DMD from an accredited school of dentistry,
  • Valid, unencumbered, Washington State license to practice dentistry, or has the ability/qualifications to obtain the license prior to hire.
  • Possession of unrestricted DEA registration to prescribe controlled substances.
  • Valid BLS certification for health care providers.
  • Experience and/or education in working with medical/dental documents, maintaining or processing health/dental records and using dental terminology.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two years clinical experience in the practice of dentistry.
  • Knowledge in the areas of scheduling routine/special dental procedures and patient visits.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications and related technologies.
  • Proficient in performing dental extractions (both non-surgical and uncomplicated surgical).

  • Salary is based on experience and is determined at the time a final offer of employment is made. The salary range listed in the job posting includes Steps A-M. Step M is a longevity step and is typically gained six years after being assigned to Step L in your permanent salary range.
