REQUIREMENTS:
Education Level:
High School diploma. Bachelor of Arts Degree or equivalent from four-year college preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience Desired:
Experience and/or training in Debate. Demonstrated interest and commitment to the welfare of young people. Strong academic background.
Other Requirements:
Excellent verbal and written communication. Positive human relations skills. Strong skills in detailed and accurate work. Good organizational skills. Patience and a positive attitude toward people are essential. Ability to work under pressure and with minimal supervision. Able to work irregular/flexible schedule during the season. Frequent travel is required.
Physical Requirements:
This position requires constant hand-eye/mind-eye coordination, dialing, grasping, keyboarding, repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers. Walking, sitting, scheduling and talking are constantly required. A valid South Dakota driver's license and the ability to drive a car.
Clearances:
Employment is contingent upon a Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance, paid for by the applicant.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
- Assist and work with students at all scheduled practices from October-May. This includes, debate, student congress seasons and national tournament prep. During debate season, practice will run Monday - Thursday with competitions on Friday and Saturdays. This includes working with I.E.'s, and/or policy and/or L-D Debate and/or public forum, whether working on files, cases, briefs, or running practice rounds.
- Attend and coach/judge all events as assigned.
- Assist with set-up, tabbing, hospitality, lunch stand, handing out awards etc. at all Central High School speech and debate events.
- Chaperone and supervise students when traveling to and from tournaments, during tournaments, and upon returning from tournaments until students are released to parent or legal guardian.
- Enforce all policies and procedures as stated in the student handbook, coach handbook, and forensic policy statements.
- Notify the Administration of any difficulties and/or concerns regarding students.
- Assist with registration, code assignments, room assignments, roll call and other tournament procedures as necessary.
- Supervise loading and unloading of vehicles; check that vehicles have been properly cleaned.
- Assist with tournament by tournament record keeping.
- Dress professionally at all times at tournaments (no blue jeans or faded/washed out jeans of any color).
- Drive the team van, when necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned by head speech and debate coach.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal.
