***This is a seasonal position, ranging from 20-40 hours per week with no benefits.***
Successful applicants should expect an interview sometime between end of February - June.Spring Break Camp April 1st – 5th with mandatory training on March 29th & 30th.
Tentative Dates: Summer Camp runs 6/17 – 8/30 at Federal Way Community Center with mandatory training June 14th & 15th (subject to change depending on FWPS calendar).
If hired, applicants should expect to work on the 4th of July, at the City’s Red, White and Blues Festival.
Day Camp Leaders are essential to the Federal Way Day Camp Program. Under the direction of the Community Recreation Coordinator, Day Camp Leaders are responsible for the well-being and safety of youth (ages 4-13) at camp. Duties include coordinating and implementing engaging recreational activities for the campers and supervising campers to make sure they are safe and happy. As a representative of the Department of Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services, a uniform will be provided and must be worn during working hours.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
- Supervise and actively participate in camp-wide program activities with campers of different ages and serve as a positive role model at all times.
- Participate in training workshops, help prior to camp sessions and throughout.
- Work co-operatively with other Day Camp Leaders in an enthusiastic and supportive manner to ensure campers are safe, while maintaining adequate health and hygiene measures.
- Build relationships with all campers by showing compassion, empathy and understanding.
- Communicate effectively with co-workers, parents, and supervisors.
- Assist in implementation of discipline plans with children.
- Render first aid in case of injury.
- Write necessary accident/ incident or other reports.
- Maintain professional image and positive attitude at all times.
- Perform other tasks and duties as assigned by the Day Camp Supervisor and Recreation Coordinator.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Experience in planning, implementing and supervising recreational and/or educational activities for children preferable.
- Current First Aid, Child and Adult CPR cards required.
- Ability to successfully pass WSP Background Check.
