Database ManagerBay Area preferred, statewide California and remote considered
UPTE, CWA Local 9119 (“UPTE”) is a dynamic and growing member-run, statewide union representing more than 18,000 University of California technical, research, and health care professionals, DOE National Lab workers, and Community College Faculty. UPTE is seeking a Data Manager and Technologist.
The Database Manager will be responsible for managing and maintaining the UPTE Database. Providing support for technical activities in the field and various campaigns. This position will coordinate the configuration of the new database and manage the successful transfer of data as well as train staff on new systems. Responsibilities include collection, manipulation, and preparation of data for use by the UPTE Database and other tools used in multiple organizing campaigns. Responsibilities:
- Work with database consultants to configure and maintain the UPTE Database.
- Generate reports and provide information to other departments and staff as requested.
- Creates and generates member lists for field staff as requested.
- Responsible for collection, manipulation, and preparation of data for use by the UPTE Database.
- When required, develop automation processes and techniques to fulfill UPTE’s needs ensuring data integrity and system performance.
- Provides support to database users.
- Work closely with the Operations team to ensure quality assurance of the current Membership transmittal file processes, procedures, and workflows.
- Coordinates with Operations to ensure timely and accurate data processing.
- Coordinates and/or conducts training with staff tasked with data entry into the UPTE Database and creates procedural documentation.
- Works with UPTE Database consultants to build templates to import data into the database.
- Works to create data processes that will create greater data efficiencies.
- Will work closely new database systems team to coordinate the successful transfer of data to the new database system.
- Must maintain technical skill sets with industry.
- Performs other duties as required.
Requirements:
Education and Experience
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a minimum of five (5) years experience in a large labor union, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Skills Requirements:
- Extensive knowledge of Union structures and membership systems.
- Extensive knowledge of the Labor movement structure, mission, and objectives.
- Experience with complex data cleansing projects.
- Experience with sophisticated databases and knowledge of input, select, sort, and output functions.
- Ability to define business requirements, relay and document such requirements, and streamline operational processes.
- Ability to plan, implement, and complete multiple projects.
- Ability to research, analyze, and prepare statistical and/or other reports.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of technical data processing concepts.
- Ability to work closely with staff is desirable.

For applicants interested in full-time work, compensation includes a competitive salary and benefits package, including all University holidays, generous vacation, healthcare, and retirement benefits. Position open until filled. The salary range for this position is $70,000-$100,000.
