General Description
The database Administrator oversees and supports the database environment in a 24x7 highly-available production environment. Database Administrators must proactively prevent database issues by closely monitoring the database systems and implementing the tools and procedures required to maintain a very stable environment. Individuals in this role are responsible for administering, analyzing, recommending, designing, developing, enhancing and supporting data structures and data processes required to maintain optimal system performance and data integrity. Contributes considerable business and technical knowledge to complex IT projects.
Essential Duties
• Employees performing in this job function may perform some or all of these duties. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.
• Maintain and support databases for all applications and systems.
• Analyze poor performing SQL statements and recommend optimizations.
• Analyze and make recommendation of changes to SQL database maintenance plans. Modify selected SQL database maintenance plans.
• Create new SQL database maintenance plans where new plans are needed.
• Perform database configuration (Database refresh from PROD to Non-PROD) which, includes restoration of Security and Availability Groups.
• Create and maintain documentation - update documents or create new documentation where needed.
• Review of backup health, maintenance task health, database consistency health checks.
• Perform Disaster Recovery process review and provide recommendations for improvement of Disaster Recovery processes.
• Work with development team on deployment of database changes to nonproduction and production database systems.
• Responsible for all functions associated with the design, implementation and maintenance of Microsoft SQL Server instances including security, backup, logging, reporting and recovery.
• Maintain connectivity to database systems for applications, end users, developers, reporting services and patch processing.
• Routinely monitor database activity. Review and audit error and console logs. Respond quickly to resolve problems that occur and take proactive steps to forestall critical problems.
• Monitor database space usage. Expand/add new data files as required. Assure database space planning to support development and ongoing systems usage.
• Monitor database performance to ensure optional performance. Perform routine database performance/tuning activities, and schedule database optimization utilities.
• Plan, install, upgrade, and test DBMS software and related management tools. Work with the team members to ensure sufficient system resources are available.
• Develop and implement database change control procedures to protect the integrity of data as changes are introduced into the database environment. Transfer all changes from the test to the production DBMS environment per established database change control procedures. Assure database replications are completed accurately to assure integrity.
• Recommend, develop, and implement database backup and recovery strategies that will protect against loss of data. Monitor all database backups. Resolve problems related to the database backups. Restore and recover databases as required.
• Develop new databases, as needed, to support application development projects both internal and vendor driven. Perform analysis necessary to ensure effective database design.
• Ensure database queries created by internal development teams are properly structured for optimum database performance.
• Develop scripts, as necessary, to automate functions of database administration. Schedule such scripts automatically that are required to run regularly.
• Utilize incident creation/tracking and change control tools and processes.
• Perform daily, weekly, and monthly data maintenance tasks.
• Develop, maintain and publish database standards and design documentation.
• Develop disaster recovery strategies and procedures.
• Develop and maintain effective disaster recovery solutions to ensure minimal data and productivity loss.
• Document all work processes and activities required to maintain databases.
• Provide off-hours support for database-related incidents, including evening, weekends and holidays.
• Participate in an On-Call rotation to respond to critical production issues outside of regular business hours.
• Fully support the Clerk's Quality Policy and standards of Performance Excellence by delivering exemplary services to both internal and external customers. Provide the utmost in customer service efficiently, effectively, and expeditiously.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Expert understanding and experience supporting Microsoft SQL Server 2012, 2016, 2017 in Always On Availability Groups.
• Support IBM Informix database platforms.
• Expert knowledge of data analysis, database performance monitoring tools and techniques, database backup and recovery tools, and end-user database reporting tools.
• Experience with installation of Microsoft SQL Server upgrades, Service Packs, Hot Fix installation and new feature implementation.
• Experience with high availability solutions including clustering and replication.
• Research, evaluate, and implement new cloud service solutions and technologies to address business needs, gaps, and requirements.
• Experience in operating 24x7 monitoring, maintenance and troubleshooting of all aspects of RDBMS environments.
• Strong understanding of the relationships of architectural components within technology infrastructure.
• Ability to build, upgrade and tune SQL databases for optimal performance.
• Self-starter with excellent organization, planning, documentation and time management skills.
• Ability to analyze business cases, extract requirements and understand business needs to translate requirements into database functionality.
• Possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Make sound, independent judgments.
• Lift up to 50 lbs.
Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Required:
A Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in Computer Science or Information Technology plus 8 years' experience in Information Technology and 5+ years' experience in a multiple DBMS and multiple operating system environment.
