Job Description
COMPANY OVERVIEW
HueDx is a technology platform for developing and launching rapid, quantitative, assay-based (RQA) diagnostic tests in a fraction of the industry-standard time. Quantitative, on-demand, low-cost diagnostic results, specifically tailored to your need, are produced in seconds using your mobile phone camera and a HueCard. No lab, expensive equipment, or complicated sample collection necessary. Custom HueCard configurations can be developed for partners in the medical, agricultural, industrial, veterinary industries, and more. Develop your own assays, choose from ready-made HueDx assays, or work with us to develop the assays you need to launch a HueCard as a complimentary or mission-critical product. DESCRIPTION
HueDx is searching for an experienced Data Scientist with a Computer Vision emphasis to join our team and work on creating an industry leading suite of CV tools to accelerate experiments across multiple industries. This individual will work closely with the Director of DS and ML, a team of chemists and chemical engineers, as well as a team of developers and mechanical engineers to bring intelligent automation to a wide variety of CV tasks.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The DS-CV will develop image processing pipelines for inferring the characteristics of biological samples and reaction colors from digital images captured by a mobile phone.
- Develop Code: This individual will develop experimental, test, and production-worth code for image processing pipelines, tooling, and production environment architecture in AWS using Python. They will also create tools for maintaining, testing, and evaluating the effectiveness of those pipelines in production, test, and development environments.
- Own Data: The DS-CV will develop end-end workflows for an ML based solution architecture in a full design cycle that requires data definition, preparation, augmentation, selection, robustness checks and cloud storage.
- Plan: The DS-CV will plan ahead for future product needs and seek to understand practical, realistic product requirements for a real-world application involving complex data science.
- Scientifically Investigate: The DS-CV will hold quality scientific rigor in the highest regard. As a company seeking FDA approval of our products, safety is critical. In order to develop a safe, effective product, we hold ourselves to the highest standards of scientific exploration, record keeping, data presentation and preparation, and communication. The DS-CV will be expected to have a PhD-level of awareness of how to perform quality science (even if the candidate does not hold a PhD).
- Launch Products: The DS-CV will be responsible for producing software that is used in a deployed product. As a result, an understanding of the product development lifecycle and mindset is essential. Triaging bugs, planning new features, and understanding compromises are topics this individual needs to have a great deal of experience managing in the midst of complex and ever-changing data-science-related product requirements.
- Digest Stakeholder Requirements: The DS-CV will listen to and understand the requirements of the product from the perspective of the user, the chemistry, the mechanical design, and the software and translate those requirements into achievable and practical data science requirements.
- Organize: The DS-CV will take ownership of their codebase and ensure that their software, tools, architecture, and plans are well-communicated, justified, understood, and approved by their team as a whole. As a result, this individual will need to be high-organized and take satisfaction in writing quality code and documentation.
QUALIFICATIONS
In lieu of the below qualifications, considerations will be made for equivalent or particularly relevant experience.

- Deep familiarity with classical CV techniques (image registration, contour detection, color correction, etc) as well as modern DNN-based approaches (image classification, segmentation, object detection, etc.)
- Fluency in common data science packages and environments (Jupyter, Pandas, NumPy)
- Experience working in non-RGB color space (HSL, HSV, LAB, XYZ, etc)
NICE TO HAVE
- Expertise in computational photography concepts such as white balance, gamma curves, debayering, HDR, etc.
- Extensive background using Sagemaker and MLOps processes/procedures in your workflows
