We currently have a need for a Data Center Security Operations Engineer to support a Global Network Infrastructure environment. The Engineer will work with a small team of infrastructure engineers who are responsible for managing the complete IT infrastructure within the R&D org that is depended upon by internal customers that include Software Development, Quality Engineering, Software Deployment Optimization, Lifecycle Engineering and technical leadership. These teams are responsible for producing products that include Connexus Unigy, IQ/Max Touch and Unigy Soft Client. You will be a hands-on contributor, working collaboratively with your peers or independently on tasks with appropriate self-motivation. You will be tasked with understanding business requirements and objectives and delivering solutions under tight schedules while following established processes.  You will be expected to have strong technical and soft skills along with excellent verbal and written communication skills.  To ensure effective communication, you must be comfortable utilizing team communication and collaboration tools and working a minimum of 3 days a week or as needed in the Fairfield office.  Global Financial Services, Healthcare or Pharmaceutical experience is strongly preferred.  

Responsibilities:

  • Be a hands-on contributor working on priority-based tasks, collaborating with on- and off-shore team members to accomplish projects successfully on time, incorporating regular guidance from leadership.
  • Catalog and maintain R&D infrastructure documentation utilizing industry standard software like DCIM, Confluence and MS Office tools.
  • Provide regular, clear communication to internal customers and leadership.
  • Be responsive to issues reported by internal customers and resolve them within timeframes that meet customer requirements.
  • Work with the team to establish standards, documentation and structure to insure consistent positive results as well as supporting the team's efficiency.
  • Be reasonably local to the Fairfield Office location to be able to react to emergencies at the site.

 

 

Skills required:

 

  • 8+ years of experience in relevant areas.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Technology, Systems & Network Engineering, or Computer Science is a plus.
  • Linux system administration experience (RedHat Enterprise Linux preferred) including:
    • Linux deployment/upgrade/patching/administration, both local and remote.
    • Scripting languages to accomplish tasks (bash, python required).
    • Firewall and networking configuration using iptables/firewalld and networkmanager.
    • User management, filesystem management and permissions.
  • Experience with important system services incl. DHCP, LDAP, SSSD, NTP, SMB, Active Directory.
  • Experience with industry-standard tools/software for managing labs/infrastructure e.g. DCIM.
  • Understanding of Power and HVAC distribution and planning (being able to identify hot spots, power overload of backup systems and overall power distribution).
  • Windows system administration experience via both local and remote, incl. user admin, AD, deployment/upgrade/patching/administration, incl. virtual desktops.
  • Basic PKI and Certificate administration (device and CA level).
  • SAN/NAS hardware and configuration, incl. RAID, ZFS and basic storage algorithm concepts.
  • Strong Office skills for cataloging and equipment tracing/utilization skills.
  • Experience with KVM hypervisor.
  • Automated deployment experience (Ansible or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of network and power cabling strategies, distance management, repeaters.
  • Experience with lab build out and associated wiring, some light carpentry/metal work.
  • NMS and infrastructure monitoring/alerting experience (e.g. Nagios).
  • Experience with industry standard task management tools, e.g. Jira .
  • Physical server rack & stack, configuration, maintenance/admin, BIOS, iDRAC access.
  • Experience in virtualization and VMs using VMWare, vSphere, vCenter, etc., including:
    • Deployment, Clustering, Configuration, Networking, Maintenance, Backup/restore
    • VSAN architecture, implementation, and maintenance
    • Health and performance monitoring
  • Networking experience, incl. configuration of IPs, subnets, gateways, routing, VLANs.
  • Experience using Linux to accomplish daily tasks (RedHat Enterprise Linux preferred).
  • Basic understanding of security fundamentals to manage security risks of existing environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding problem-solving skills, including the ability to look for standard as well as non-standard solutions to problems.
  • Flexibility in work hours as some work could occur after hours and in support of other teams.
