POSITION SUMMARY:
The Data Architect is responsible for determining the logical design and information management strategies necessary to store, move and manage data in a new target state or an alternative version of an existing state. The Data Architect works as a team member along with other developers, solutions architect, enterprise architect, support personnel, and business stakeholders to deliver a complete solution for the customer.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assess the benefits and the risks of information by using tools such as business capability models to create an information-centric view to quickly visualize what data/information matters most to the organization based on the defined business strategy.
  • Determine overall modeling standards, guidelines, best practices and approved modeling techniques.
  • Create and manage data models in all their forms, including conceptual models, relational database designs, message models and others while ensuring that data modeling practices and guidelines are followed in order to avoid physical model bias.
  • Review proposed data models contained in packaged or commercially available applications before they are bought.
  • Model the future state of the data architecture and provide data architecture best practices and guidelines that is unencumbered by the specific data implementation details imposed by proprietary solutions or technologies.
  • Participate in data integration, business intelligence (BI) and enterprise information management programs by rationalizing data processing to support reuse.
  • Work with other members of IT (developers, database administrators, enterprise architect, systems support) to develop the data objects and data models to support data services in service-oriented architecture.
  • Champion efforts to improve business performance through enterprise information solutions and capabilities, such as master data management (MDM), metadata management, analytics, content management, data integration, and related information management or information infrastructure components.
  • By partnering with business unit leadership, and through the rationalization of the information value chain, the data architect will provide strategic, information-based recommendations to protect the organization from disruptions while also embracing innovation.
  • Identify the data assets that are deemed significant to the enterprise, as determined by the business impact, decision impact, risk mitigation or organizational impact of the information.
  • Defining data classifications and data zoning to allow information assets to be immediately identified and proactively managed as more information becomes federated
  • Establish metrics for tracking and measuring the value of data architecture initiatives. For example, measuring model reuse, impact on project costs or improved data consistency across diverse initiatives.
  • Ensure that critical information assets modeled as part of any project are represented in an enterprise information architecture (EIA) and follow the design guidelines and requirements of EIA.
  • Provide a clear overview of the target information architecture and coordinate change activities to ensure that the enterprise information management (EIM) team can consolidate multiple data sources and repositories to deliver additional business value.
  • Suggest who can take what actions, with what information, and under what circumstances. Assist in developing governance processes and structures.
  • Explore the impact of business strategy changes on information management practices with the EIM team. Investigating ways to extract additional value from existing information assets.
  • Ensure that the architecture is used as a lens and a filter to focus only on those internal and external data sources and repositories required to deliver the targeted business value.
  • Analyze data security requirements and solutions, and working with the information security and the CIO to ensure that data (both on-premises and in the cloud) is treated as a protected asset.

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems or a related study (or equivalent project-related experience)
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in IT, with at least 5 years in data architecture, Business Intelligence, or information system design
  • 3+ years of experience as a data analyst
  • 3+ years of Microsoft technologies systems integration and/or implementation experience around .NET Stack with a focus on data tools including SSIS, SSRS, SSMS
  • In-depth experience in designing and implementing information/data solutions with Apache Hadoop and either Horton Works or Cloudera distribution exposure
  • Experience with NiFi (having built some basic shapes in Nifi), Sqoop, Sparq, Hive, Pig, or any of the Apache Hadoop suite
  • Hands-on experience implementing data and analytics management programs is preferred
  • Conceptual, logical and physical modeling, especially for rationalizing data objects
  • Advanced experience with system analysis
  • Ability to collaborate with enterprise architect to support common goals and approaches
  • Ability to collaborate with business analysts and data stewards to assess if the model is fit for use
  • Experience with enterprise integration tools (SSIS, BizTalk, Boomi) and extract, transformation and load (ETL) tools
  • Experience using and working with SQL and Oracle databases specifically able to build basic queries, views, and understanding of database structures
  • Knowledge of web-based systems architecture, service-based architecture, and enterprise application architecture as well as experience managing expectations when balancing alternatives against business and financial constraints
  • Should have hands-on expertise in some of the following technologies: C++Java/J2EE, including SOAP, RESTful, .NET and related technologies (JSON, XML, etc.), Common frameworks such as struts, spring, hibernate, etc. and Database technologies (Oracle, MySQL, JDBC, SQL, PL/SQL, stored procedures)
  • Experience with reporting tools like PowerBI, Tableau, Tibco Spotfire visualization
  • Strong presentation and communication skills
  • Regular and reliable attendance
  • Willingness to travel to client locations (up to 10%)
