Job Summary / Basic Function
The Institutional Research Office at PennWest seeks to add a Data Analyst to its data-driven team. Reporting to the Chief Data Strategist, the ideal candidate will possess both technical and analytical skillsets. They will be required to utilize SQL to bring data together, SAS/SPSS/R/Python for analysis and deriving meaning, and Excel and Tableau for reporting and delivery. By taking advantage of offered training and working with IT and other data experts, the Data Analyst is charged with becoming knowledgeable about the data that underpins the student information system (Banner) and how that data can be utilized to provide the most value for university department heads and administrators.
Tableau will be frequently utilized, as a good portion of this position's work will focus on contributing to and supporting the entire team's rollout of data visualizations. Existing complex dashboards will be updated by the Data Analyst, as well as new ones created. This position will be working with IT as necessary to bring the University's budding data warehouse and data stores into existence.
Responsibilities:

• By the direction of the office, develop, maintain, champion, and drive forward the consistently growing analytical Tableau dashboard suite offered by the team.
• Through various statistical and analytical practices, transform data into descriptive, meaningful, and actionable information, insights, and stories.
• As a part of the team, build, train, and maintain predictive and analytical models housed within the office.
• Work with IT to build out internal warehouse capabilities.
• Leverage, join, and utilize existing data belonging to various internal parties to create useful datasets or warehouse stores.
• Be a major contributor and liaison between the IR team and the IT team on data matters. Work together to identify data errors and craft remediation strategies. With IT's assistance, manage security and permissions of the Tableau Server.
• Assist with the retrieval, validation, and submission of information to internal constituents and external/regulatory/governmental reporting agencies, including ad hoc data requests.
• Support each member of the office as needed.
• Gain a comprehensive understanding of the office's deliverables and reporting tools utilized by the PennWest community. Support rollout and training initiatives and present tools to various constituents.

Required Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Minimum of Education / TrainingRequired Education Summary

• Bachelor's degree in a business, analytical, quantitative, information management, or research-related discipline which enables the applicant to fulfill the position's demands.
• Proven understanding of Tableau (or similar visualization platform) and the ability to leverage the tool to craft stories, graphics, reports, and complex analysis.
• Technical experience with statistical software tools, such as SAS, SPSS, R, and/or Python, and competent usage of various statistical techniques (regression, risk scoring, forecasting, etc.)
• Solid understanding and usage of SQL.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to share data and research results in ways that are easily consumed by non-statisticians.
• Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Access.
• Successful completion of an interview.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Data Analytics or related field.
• Prior work experience in higher education and knowledge of Ellucian's Banner Student Information System.
• Some experience with data architecture and data modeling, and some exposure to data warehouse design and/or usage.
• Tableau Data Analyst certification.
