Position Summary

The Washington University School of Medicine Operations & Facilities Management Department provides a range of services for the medical campus in a customer-focused, efficient, and sustainable manner.
Operations & Facilities Management maintains 61 university buildings and provides operational, planning, and construction services to over 8.3 million gross square feet of space. We will open three new facilities between 2023 and 2025 with over 1.5M BGSF. In addition, the School of Medicine continues expanding its reach on and off campus in teaching, clinical care, and research. Our team plays a vital and important role in delivering care, research, and education.
Provides a higher level of custodial services by performing various cleaning tasks to maintain a safe and healthy work area for staff, patients, students, and faculty. In addition to the daily tasks assigned, I am responsible for daily floor-to-ceiling cleaning of the clean rooms and clinical areas in which all surfaces and equipment within the facility are cleaned daily.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Cleans interior rooms, restrooms, corridors, and work areas while conducting daily spot checks for thoroughness and quality.
  • Dusts and provides floor care daily in all work areas, clinics, clean rooms, and laboratory environments.
  • Operates vacuum cleaners, auto scrubbers, buffers, and mop wringers; uses mops, brooms, brushes, soap, cleaning chemicals, floor finish, and other materials related to building cleaning.
  • Removes and properly disposes of all waste, including biohazard, waste, and recycled material from the area.
  • Assists in maintaining and tracking inventory of housekeeping supplies and consumables needed for the area.
  • Provides a high level of customer service to faculty, patients, students, staff, and other university employees.
  • Reports facility-related issues for repair and other duties as directed by leadership.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

  • 1st shift schedule is Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM.
  • Some weekends and overtime may be required.
  • Exposure to chemicals.
  • Typically bending, crouching, stooping.
  • Frequent lifting 25 pounds or more.
  • Must read and understand labels and operating instructions on equipment and chemical containers.
  • Must lift and carry tools and materials weighing over 50 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Housekeeping experience is highly preferred.
  • Experience in the custodial/janitorial industry.
  • Professional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact professionally with diverse upper management groups, external stakeholders, and entry-level staff.
  • Ability to work independently without supervision and exercise sound judgment in establishing priorities.
  • Willingness to work cooperatively with a high level of organizational skill and be responsive to change and innovation.
  • Demonstrate a high level of attention to detail, follow established procedures, and maintain a very high degree of consistency.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent high school certification.

G04-H

Salary Range

$16.08 - $21.47 / Hourly The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
