Job Summary:
Plans and implements effective learning activities according to curriculum expectations in their classroom. Maintains child portfolios during school year tracking progress in each developmental area. Works in collaboration with the classroom team to
ensure direct care to children.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare materials, and implement daily activities using approved curriculum and child tracking tools.
- Uses knowledge of goals and objectives to scaffold learning.
- Works in collaboration with classrooms staff to provide direct care to children at a ratio set by licensing standards.
- Direct care includes supervision, academics, physical and mental well-being, social skills, and self-care skills.
- Organize a daily schedule for the children, incorporating developmentally appropriate activities throughout the day.
- Collects anecdotal notes as instructed by curriculum and inputs data into a computer program regularly.
- Organizes parent conferences twice a year.
- Collects data for behavior plans as necessary.
- Ensures proper supervision of unstructured free play.
- Maintains physical safety of children and of the classroom environment.
- Consistent, regular communication to families in a variety of ways. (Emails, notes home, phone calls, etc.)
- Uses positive guidance techniques to encourage appropriate self-regulation and social skills.
- Maintains individual child files in the classroom and on computer.
- Regularly attends Lead Teacher meetings and Kalamazoo County Ready 4's meetings (if necessary).
- Communicate with parents daily regarding their child's needs and/or progress in a polite, caring and helpful manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Performs regular cleaning duties as needed in classroom and center.
- Regular and consistent attendance.
- Must have knowledge of and comply with the policies and procedures contained in the Curious Kids Portage Public Schools Employee Handbook.
Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in early elementary, child development or a child-related field; OR
- Montessori credential with 480 hours of experience; OR Associates degree or higher in early childhood education or child development; OR Valid child development a social credential with 480 hours of experience; OR High school diploma or GED with 12 college semester hours and 960 hours of experience; OR High school diploma or GED with 12 college semester hours, 18 CEU's or a combination to equal 180 clock hours with 1,920 hours of experience; OR High school diploma or GED with 6 college semester hours, 9 CEU's, or a combination to equal 90 clock hours with 3,840 hours of experience.
- CPR/First Aid/AED
- Must complete required 24 hours of annual professional development per CCL.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with district staff and the public.
- Ability to assume responsibility, display initiative, and exercise good judgment.
- Proficient computer and document skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
