Job description

Join the USU Extension Create Better Health (SNAP-ED) Program: Become an integral part of our comprehensive initiative dedicated to supporting low-income individuals and families. Our program offers direct education focusing on basic nutrition, culinary skills, and physical activity for both youth and adults. We provide services in both online and face-to-face settings, contingent upon current conditions. Collaborating closely with community partners, we aim to enhance healthy food access and physical activity opportunities within communities through Policy, Systems, and Environmental (PSE) work. Additionally, we extend our outreach and educational efforts through various social media platforms, serving as influencers in these spaces.

 

Position Overview: We are seeking a qualified individual at the State Office, located on the Main Campus of Utah State University in Logan, UT. This is a part-time position, approximately 20 hours per week for 16 weeks (320 hours total), subject to available grant funding. Reporting program progress and impacts is integral to this role.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct education on basic nutrition, culinary skills, and physical activity.
  • Collaborate closely with community partners to enhance healthy food access and physical activity opportunities through PSE work.
  • Extend outreach and educational efforts through various social media platforms.
  • Work in both online and face-to-face settings, adapting to current conditions.

Qualifications: Preferably, candidates should have:

  • Familiarity with SNAP-Ed procedures.
  • Knowledge of local community food distribution sites.

State Team Support:

  • Support program manager with grant-related projects in an organized and timely manner. Tasks may include logistics planning, writing reports, data entry, and others. Tasks will be discussed and updated during a weekly check-in meeting.

Teaching and Education:

  • Aide in delivery of refugee curriculum with refugee programming coordinator.

Cultural Competency and Community Engagement:

  • Effectively communicate and engage with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Support state team with culture driven program development.

Program Management and Reporting:

  • Adhere to Create Better Health (SNAP-Ed) policies and procedures.
  • Provide accurate and timely reports to CBH manager as needed.

Compliance and Professional Development:

  • Understand and adhere to USDA and USU guidelines.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with the code of conduct required by DWS.
  • Keep certifications and trainings up-to-date.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Be proficient in using technology and computer programs for communication, planning, organizing, and reporting.
  • Be willing to travel between Logan and Salt Lake areas.
  • Valid Utah driver’s license to perform essential job responsibilities (mileage will be reimbursed) 
  • Must have access to reliable transportation to and from work site
  • Have a growth/learning mindset.
  • Have experience demonstrating strong organization skills.
  • Be willing to contribute to a team, keep accurate records, and do reports as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of Create Better Health and SNAP-Ed.
  • Experience with designing infographics, flyers, handouts, etc. in programs such as Canva, Photoshop, or others.
  • Experience in research.
  • Experience in nutrition education.
  • Experience with utilizing AI for program and system organization.

  • Proficiency in using technology and computer programs.
  • Willingness to travel and access to transportation.
  • Growth/learning mindset.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to contribute to a team, keep accurate records, and generate reports.

  • Design skills using programs like Canva, Photoshop, or others.

  • Nutrition education experience.
  • Ability to utilize AI for program and system organization.

$15.00 per hour

Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes.  The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and may lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
