Benefits to you

  • We pay 95% to 99% of medical insurance premiums for full-time employees, including mental health coverage.
  • The hourly equivalent for these positions is $25.17 - $39.05.
  • 10 paid holidays, 2 floating holidays, 3 personal business days, separate sick and vacation paid leaves (prorated for part-time employees), and other employee benefits such as optional insurances and flexible spending plans.
  • OJD will pay you a 5% allowance for bilingual skills (includes ASL) if you can pass a skills test and are assigned to use those skills on the job!
  • In this job profile, we offer candidates new to OJD the first step of the salary range. You are potentially eligible for a 5% annual increase.

Position Highlights

The Benton County Circuit Court in Corvallis, Oregon, is hiring two Court Operations Specialiststo join our team in the Judicial Support unit.

In this role, you will provide complex and confidential support to a judge. You will initiate new cases, maintain a court calendar and the judge’s schedule, track assigned cases as they go through the court system, arrange for court interpreters, and prepare the courtroom. You will also enter and retrieve records, make photocopies, process mail, review documents for accuracy and completeness, prepare and edit legal documents and various correspondence, and conduct legal research for the judge.

Additionally, you will provide customer service, in person and over the phone, by answering questions related to pending cases. You will frequently interact with judges, management, court staff, attorneys, probation officers, defendants, and court visitors. You will also notify parties of their scheduled court appearances.

Inside the courtroom, you will swear in witnesses, mark and track exhibits, operate the recording system, maintain written records of court proceedings, prepare judgments, complete orders, and work with jurors, attorneys, witnesses, and litigants.

Part of your time will be spent attending regular staff meetings, processing requests for set asides, sealing records as needed, processing civil commitment filings, and helping maintain desk manuals.

Assigned tasks may be changed to accommodate workload and organizational needs.

Minimum Qualifications

The qualified candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

AND

Four (4) years of responsible administrative experience in a moderately complex office or business setting demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed for these positions.

OR

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to four (4) years of experience that typically supports the knowledge, skills, and abilities for the positions.

Working Conditions

  • These are full-time positions, and the work schedule is 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. These positions are eligible for overtime compensation for hours worked in excess of 40 per work week.
  • Occasional overtime work may be required.
  • Frequent phone and in-person contact with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Frequent phone and in-person contact with people who may be facing challenging life circumstances, highly stressful situations, or trauma.
  • These positions frequently interact with defendants accused of serious crimes and with litigants who may be under extreme emotional distress.
  • The work is subject to deadlines and occasionally occurs in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Long periods of sitting or standing.
  • Smoking and vaping are not permitted in work areas.
  • Regular use of the following equipment: electronic recording equipment, telephone, OJD-assigned computer with multiple monitors, copy machine, fax machine, and scanner.
