Job description

We are looking for a talented Cost Engineering Analyst - Global to join our team specializing in Purchasing for our Components Business Segment in Rochester Hills, MI.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways: 

  • Utilizes a basic knowledge of engineering principles and practices tasks to understand procurement needs while supporting early product development activities. Helps identify technology trends and supplier technology road maps.
  • Supports in obtaining input of project leadership, suppliers, product engineers, or technology teams to ensure delivery of robust prototype and production designs, technical risk mitigation plans, and coordinated deliverables of new or current product change activity.
  • Assists with analyses in support of the technical product specialist working in business processes of Product Preceding Technology (PPT) and other early product development activity. 
  • Coordinate business documents to support supplier agreements required to protect intellectual properties.
  • Engages with project teams and engineering to understand needs for new suppliers and technologies and connects engineering with the appropriate sourcing team.
  • For defined projects,supports as the purchasing team member and assists to meet the required purchasing deliverables. 
  • Prepares information for management and functional reviews.
  • Supports to establish preliminary new product program sourcing strategies for Product Preceding Technology (PPT) or other projects that are moving to VPI.

  • Intellectual Property Management - Assures protection of Cummins Intellectual Property within the supply base and partners with suppliers to optimize the use of their intellectual property for Cummins future competitive advantage by engaging the legal function;  assures appropriate separation of Cummins' inventors from Supplier Intellectual Property to avoid Intellectual Property poisoning that could inhibit Cummins' ability to freely invent. 
  • New Product Development Sourcing  - Leverages new product development process by executing the category team strategy when selecting suppliers to deliver the Value Package Introduction and meet timing, cost and quality targets.
  • Supplier Contract Development - Creates contracts to cover commercial and legal relationship between Cummins and supplier; incorporates commercial requirements and laws of regions, drive consensus amongst stakeholders and develops a mutually agreed and legally approved contract created using a Direct
  • Supplier Supply Agreement (DSA) and the C-Review Process and Negotiations Excellence skill. 
  • Project Management - Establishes and maintains the balance of scope, schedule and resources for a temporary effort (a "project").

Education, Licenses, Certifications

  • College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or other relevant technical disciplines is required.
  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience

  • Minimal work experience required. Preferred candidates would have relevant experience working in an temporary student employment, intern, co-op, or other extracurricular team activities.
  • The Global VAVE Analyst is responsible for cost analytics and support the VAVE team for Kaizen workshop planning. The position will coordinate with the VAVE team, Engineering, Purchasing excellence teams to support global platforms in Truck, Trailer and Specialty/Industrial applications. The position will support the VAVE and the Purchasing team in reporting, planning and analytics. The VAVE analyst with teams in analyzing business tradeoffs (make/buy), Should cost analytics of components, and reporting for estimation of target prices across the global platforms. 
  • 1-2 years' experience in Automotive systems like Driveline, Axles and brakes
  • Knowledge of any Cost Estimation or Should Cost software will be preferred.
  • Experience with Data analytics tools like SQL, SAS, MS Access and advanced skills in MS Excel will highly preferred
  • Elementary knowledge of CAD software like Solid Works, CREO or AutoCAD.
  • Proficient in using MS office tools (advanced Excel & Power point skills)
  • Strong Communication (verbal and written) and analytical skills and ability to work independently.
  • Strong team player and ability to interact with multiple teams in global locations and flexible to changing needs
  • Experience with reporting the results of data analytics to the senior leadership & internal stakeholders.
  • The candidate must display leadership skills and play an active role in leading analytical work
Additional Information: 
  • Provide data analytics support to cost improvement workshops/Kaizen events globally.
  • Create VAVE models based on cost estimations for components or assembly sub-systems using "Should cost" software for potential VAVE projects and workshops.
  • Analysis and comparison of BoMs of similar platforms for identification of cost drivers and generation of VAVE ideas & supporting VAVE workshops
  • Support cross functional teams involving Engineering, Purchasing excellence and Supply chain.
  • Potentially support Business case analytics and decision making for Global VAVE projects.
  • Supporting special projects as needed.
  • Maintenance of VAVE documents and tracker and support reporting of VAVE metrics.
  • Support VAVE Project managers as needed during Gate A and Gate B reporting.
  • Assist buyers in providing analytics support for potential price increases
  • Provide analysis to commodity managers on cost outliers
  • Work with product strategy / VAVE on should be costing for new products
  • Hybrid Work-schedule
  • Open to travel (sometimes global locations) to Cummins Meritor locations and suppliers. (Usually less than 20 percent.)
  • Must be comfortable to accommodate the working hours of the global teams and work in a culturally diverse environment. 
  • The role reports to the Sr. Manager - VAVE Global Process Lead.

Base salary rate commensurate with experience, range: $65,600-$98,400. Please note that the salary range provided is a good faith estimate on the applicable range.
