DESCRIPTION:
Rudolph and Sletten is looking for a Cost Engineer to Perform routine and non-routine cost/estimating assignments, which require the selection and application of resource monitoring and control principles, techniques, and technical knowledge of a construction project. Position responsible for timeliness and accuracy of reports for the project. This includes performing tasks that include, but are not limited to:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform quantity takeoff for self-performed and subcontractor work
- Solicit subcontractor/vendor quotations, and distribute bid documents, being knowledgeable of respective scopes of work and responsibilities
- Assist in preparing bidding documents (Instructions to Bidders, Attachments, Bid Forms, Appendices, etc.) for a smaller project or a specific phase or component of a larger project
- Assist in preliminary budgets and final bid estimates for a smaller project or a specific phase or component of a larger project
- Relate the actual field cost to the estimated costs
- Maintain a daily project diary and cost reports during field training to provide the estimating staff with actual R&S crew productivity information
- Become knowledgeable of the R&S safety program and procedures as they relate to a specific project and how they are accounted for in the estimate
- Other duties as assigned
- Perform tasks required to develop and maintain budgets for the project. Includes coding timesheets, invoices, etc., collecting actual installed, monitor progress per cost account, etc.
- Support supervision or construction management through preparation and maintenance of budgets and forecasts. Includes identifying potential cost overruns, reforecasting over-expended accounts, etc.
- Accurately reporting quantities of work completed on a weekly and monthly basis.
- Supervise updating of construction forecast to reflect most accurate/current cost and estimate information.
- Interface with other construction departments to provide cost/budget data for items such as subcontract change requests, bid comparisons, new work item estimates, and expenditure control.
- May provide supervision and/or on-the-job training to clerical and entry level professional personnel assigned to area of responsibility.
- Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction.
- Recognize and estimate changes.
- Monitors back charges and log.
- Performs quantity takeoffs.
- Preparing the progress payment Application.
- Develops cash flow projection with Project Controller and submits to Home Office and Owner (if required).
- Provides proactive claims protection.
- Tracks and monitors all cost reports.
- Updates all labor and unit projections.
- Monitoring the cost of materials, labor costs, and other expenses to ensure that they do not exceed budgeted amounts.
- Developing and maintaining cost estimates for construction projects to ensure that the project will be profitable based on target profit margins.
- Preparing Purchase Orders and Subcontracts.
- Examining purchasing contracts to ensure compliance with government regulations regarding contracting rules, laws, and policies.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelors degree, in civil or structural engineering or construction management or related field
- Minimum one (1) years of construction cost/estimating experience or equivalent combinations training and related experience.
- Knowledge of scheduling, estimating, and cost software.
- Working knowledge of and ability to select/apply resource monitoring and control techniques i.e., cost accounting, budget analysis, etc. as well as an understanding of the nature of process systems, structures and construction technology required.
- Demonstrate understanding and awareness of the contract
- Demonstrated logical problem solving skills, including conceptual and analytical skills
- Requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and oral.
- Manage multiple demands simultaneously
- Works well at project sites in the field environment
- Intermediate knowledge of Windows Operating Systems; Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.
- Knowledge of Procore software or similar software.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD product line.
- Knowledge of Bluebeam software.
- Ability to read Blueprints.
- Ability to travel within the greater Sacramento Region and work intermittently at jobsite locations.
- Knowledge of Lean Construction practices.
Expected annual salary range for this job is $80,000 - $100,000 depending on experience and region.
