We are seeking an experienced Cost Accountant to join Four Seasons Building Products Group, a leading national outdoor living spaces business with manufacturing locations in New York, Alabama, California, and Florida. Working with the HQ finance team, you will lead cost accounting activity for the business, working with plant managers and inventory control specialist to control and report on product and factory costs. Periodic travel to plant locations is involved.
Accountabilities
- Contribute to continuous improvement of business costs and cash generation by advising and overseeing execution of changes to business (labor efficiency, space utilization, machine efficiency, improved supply chain performance, etc.).
- Assist new product development with developing costs of production / pricing scenarios for new products.
- Understand principles of creation of, and support creation of, new Items and BoM’s in ERP systems (Syteline9). Syteline (formerly MAPICS) experience a significant plus.
- Review overhead rates and labor rates used for standard costing.
- Help to ensure regular reporting is made to senior business management on cost performance vs. budgets, and highlight and investigate emerging issues.
- Act as sponsor of ‘best practices’ dissemination for factory cost management across the organization.
- Monitor and correct inconsistencies in costs between locations on transfers.
- Maintain ERP set-up for costing: e.g. cost centers, resources, resource groups, etc.
- Evaluate underlying cost of different products / product lines (margin earned vs. fully-loaded costs of production (factoring in management / sales time, inventory stocking requirements, etc.) to make suggestion on value added changes in product offering.
- Monitor inventory activity and processes to ensure they are consistent applied in the business.
- Work with management to develop strong inventory control culture and help with work to set up appropriate safety stock levels and leverage ERP for managing/ordering inventory.
- Review factory layout and locations and make suggestions on how to leverage ERP tools to better track and record inventory movement into, within, and out of all facilities.
- Document standard costing systems, inventory management systems, production planning systems, factory cost control systems, and other relevant factory systems. Develop and maintain a single costing system which can be used across all companies.
- Evaluate ideal sizing / equipment mix across manufacturing locations to optimize service and total production costs (including freight).
- Help perform analysis of capital expenditure requests and test assumptions used for calculation of return on investments for capital spending.
- Evaluate costing systems for potential acquisitions. Review inventory valuations, factory equipment, ERP integration, additional due diligence as required.
- Other ad hoc factory-related analysis as required
Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in cost accounting or related field
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial concepts
- Proficiency in using accounting software, such as Sage or similar systems
- Experience with balance sheet reconciliation and general ledger account analysis
- Familiarity with corporate accounting practices and procedures
- Knowledge of SOX compliance requirements is a plus
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
